To all the people complaining about cue cards -- that's how a show like this has to work. Each weekend's show is written during the preceding week, meaning actors have little if any time to actually rehearse. Sure, they might do a run-through or two of a given scene, but it's certainly not enough time to actually memorize lines. Not to mention, writers can (and do) change lines in a scene right up the minutes before a scene is actually played out. John Mulaney used to do that to Bill Hader when Hader was doing Stefon. Point is, while parts of it might be scripted, SNL is at its heart an improv show. The actors are expected to bring their own spin to the provided lines. If you want to watch a fully rehearsed show where everyone has their lines memorized and the laugh tracks are all pre-recorded, watch the Big Bang Theory, or something equally stupid.

Someone made me watch this many years ago. I had not laughed at SNL for years and was not interested. He basically forced me to watch it. When it was done I was just speechless. WTF did I just watch and I had to watch it again. I almost couldn't laugh because it was too genius. Flawless. The timing, the characters, the premise, the build and the crescendo, the surprises! all of it. I had never heard of Kristen Wiig and just thought she was 'Sue'. Then I looked her up and the next thing I saw was Penelope. This was the same person?! Another hilarious sketch and hypnotic character.... "Well I guess I'll just say, I'm best friends with all the muppets, including Scooter. I was invited to all their weddings...." I've seen everything of her SNL stuff I can since then and shared with 100's of people. I just sent out "Two A Holes Buying a Christmas Tree" for some christmas cheer... "What street are we on? Make me a smoothie." I definitely have some favorites. Her impressions are fantastic and so many, but her original characters are legendary. She inspired me to do a bunch of little sketches (I am an actor) and I found a new approach to characters that was more authentic. I have a few of them on here if you're interested, just don't compare me to the queen! So glad I watched this sketch that day.
