Avi and myself are both what’s called a Basso Profundo but what sets him apart from every other Profundo is his smoothness and his emotion it really makes you feel something when he sings while when I sing it’s no where near as smooth or emotional Avi is rare and we love him

Hi can you explain what a Basso Profundo actually is please?
@DrBasso-tk8yk

@@mariawilliams4941 Absolutely. It’s a bass with an extraordinarily low range able to project a low C and in extreme cases a double low G projected all with a very dark timbre

It's as simple as possible, sir. Mr. Avi is like a river. Have you seen the river? Always a stream, always water, but sometimes it is a great waterfall, and sometimes it is a calm expanse along the forest.

There are great bass singers, and mr Avriel Kaplan is definitely one, his tone, resonance and timbre are second to none. ……but he’s also a great tenor. Now a lot of bass singers can sing tenor, but very very few can match the resonance of their bass register, with an equally powerful and resonant tenor voice. Avi does…..he just has beautiful tone and can also add shade and colour to his singing, no matter which register he’s in, making the audience feel(physically as well as emotionally in some cases lol) as well as hear the music. On top of this, he’s a lovely person, with a gentle and kind heart, and those pretty green eyes that look into your soul!!! An astounding artist.

We all fangirl Avi, and Peter's arrangements/vocals are amazing too. All that layering!! Gawd! If you're not aware, PB does a great breakdown of this one on his channel. BTW, Peter H and Tim do a beautiful cover of Greensleeves. If you want to hear Avi do the entire lead on a PTX song, please check out Light In The Hallway. Scott wrote it for his baby nephew (at that time) and insisted that Avi sing it. There's no video so the copyright gods won't strike you down. ;) It's so beautiful, it brings me to tears. Thanks SD!

Avi's training in college as an operatic basso profundo gave him the chops to be able to sing those ultra-low notes with strength and warmth, which is a lot easier said than done. (If you weren't aware, Avi had been offered a position with the Los Angeles Opera right before he was recruited into PTX for The Sing Off.) And as someone who's been to 3 of his live shows (2019), I can tell you that those low notes reverberate through your body, especially your chest. As for his range, here's a little treat for you - an original song he hasn't formally recorded as yet. It was the fitting last song he did on tour as the last of 3 encores - "When I Die". I recorded this at his San Francisco show, and I purposefully included his explanation of the song. He talks about how he feels about his music as he gives it to us, and then begins an cappella hymn, with only a bass drum and tambourine punctuating it, and that drum shook the building and the audience, including me. And the harmonies added by all 4 band members... For anyone who wants to bypass his words, the song itself begins at 3:20 kzbin.info/www/bejne/oXPVeZ-BaMuGrKc

Fangirling there with you. Avi is one of a kind and here is a quote from a recent article about him and his upcoming album "Floating on a dream" and it's so true: At the core though there is that voice. From a haunting falsetto to its deepest bass tones, Kaplan’s instrument is unlike anything else in modern music. Looking forward to more Avi reactions. He has a lot of live stuff on his channel. Maybe check out Full Moon Live from L.A. next or for a happy song a cover of Hey Ya!, originally by Outcast.

Another entertaining Avi reaction! Keep them coming! I can’t wait to see your reaction to Sweet Adeline, one of Avi’s happiest songs: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o2jKaIFobrCIpc0. “Full Moon,” the audio only version from the album, is another beautiful and very different song. “The Summit” will also be fun - yes, “both” of those lead vocalists are Avi, at two different ends of his range! I’d normally suggest the audio only video for “It Knows Me,” but you should react to the animated video - it’s from a highly respected animator, and made at the height of the Pandemic, and there’s no way you’ll be expecting those visuals! You have so much fun in store hearing Avi’s songs for the first time! They’re all fantastic! I smiled when you mentioned “versatility” - not for a reaction, but someday you have to hear the Bladerunner 2049 soundtrack, especially the track “Wallace” - that’s Avi’s “special vocal performance” bass track being blended as one of many instruments in the track! Or the intro on Bad Moon Rising. Or the Star Wars theme or Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy (with Pentatonix). Or some of his college choral performances with Mt Sacs. Or the video of the workshop he did with University of Tennessee a Capella singers as a guest instructor. There’s even a video from A Capella Academy (which he co-founded) of him hamming it up as the kidnapped victim of the enemies of music, and the kids have to solve music puzzles to “save Avi.” He’s not just an amazing musician, he’s an amazing human being!

He is pretty amazing. Don't leave out his other appearances working with high school choirs and his appointment as an ambassador for the Sequoias and King's Canyon National Parks. It confuses people that he is an introvert but not shy at all. He just recharges by being alone and gives back empathetically when he is with others. Redlight Management is a good group for him to be with because they are very concerned about touring burnout and protecting their artists from what happened to Avi with Pentatonix.

Another awesome reaction! And Avi is definitely someone worth "fangirling" over. His talent is amazing, but what sets him apart is his heart. He is humble and genuine and those traits along with the emotion that flows through him as he sings and /or plays. Especially the originals that he has written. They are from such a deeply personal place and you can't help but connect with the emotion he feels as he sings. Anyone who is not touched by his music lacks empathy in my opinion.

I've played this on repeat while waiting in my car before just losing myself in Avi's buttery lows and highs and Peter's magical highs. Such a beautiful arrangement and execution. I love all of Peter's stuff, but this one is always in my top 3 favorite arrangements. I told you Peter is amazing. You won’t totally get it until you have seen a few more of his videos. Depending on who he’s harmonizing with, even when it’s several layers of himself, will you really get the range of his voice. In videos like this one when you see multiple boxes of the singer it’s really so you can see all the different ways multiple harmonies are made. You need to watch the different positions of the mouth. You should also look up subharmonics it will help you understand how they create such a range. Geoff has a video on his channel that explains and shows it really well. It simple to understand.
