Pull an interview on the topic out of context using cut scenes. 4. End episode with some nonsense of moral high ground. Very little actual jokes, and pretty much just preachy clapter. For those who don't get it, "I'm willing to be a vegetarian for the rest of my life" is a phrase from a popular TV drama where the empress made the pledge in exchange for the emperor to die. It became a meme to express disdain against the president, hence the ban. For better understanding: to practice being vegetarian has cultural/religious connotations among the Chinese - one can wish for something or blessing, and in exchange pledge to be a vegetarian for a period of time, or for life. Apart from monks, this is considered an act of devotion for Buddhists. For example some Chinese might practice a full vegetarian day on the first day of Chinese New Year, as respect to Buddha and for good karma. Many may not know this but eating beef is also prohibited for some Chinese Buddhists who worship Goddess Guan Yin and eating it could be considered bad karma. If you're interested to find out more I'd suggest to Google it. Interestingly, calling someone a "vegetarian" in Chinese also has a colloquial meaning. It's used to describe someone who is soft, gentle, sometimes even "weak" - to liken someone as gentle and passive as a monk. It can also be used to describe someone who isn't married or hasn't been seen dating anyone. However this is by no means a description of someone's sexuality. As a sidenote regarding religion/culture, far as I know, devout Hindus would also practice being vegetarian for certain days of the week and/or on auspicious days.

I heard about this from a Guantanamo Documentary. A few Uyghut people were on their way to Turkey (fleeing China), got caught up by the US and were sent to Guantanamo. They were released under Obama if I‘m not mistaken and Albania took them. The documentary showed that China had made several requests to Albania to hand them out as they were seen as criminals, if I‘m not mistaken because they were politically active in their communities or because they fled the country. I had no idea there were muslims living in China and that they were apparently mistreated there

McK Ode Don't make ignorant comments please. 1. Non Kashmiris can't buy properties in Kashmir. 2. Electricity, water, fuel, food etc is subsidised up to 90% in Kashmir and the Indians from rest of India are bearing the brunt for it by paying taxes for their well being. 3. Kashmir is the only place where no service tax is levied, especially for a state which is stable only because of tourism, Central government doesn't get any revenue from Kashmir and its entirely utilised for the state unlike any other state in India. 4. There's videos on KZbin and newspaper articles by Pakistani media where Ex Prime Ministers and Army chiefs have accepted to promoting funding and training of UN sponsored terrorist organisations like Lashkar e Taiba and Taliban for preserving their geopolitical strategic depth policy in both India and Afghanistan. 5. Kashmiri youth in India is unemployed since there are no major industries in Kashmir, so there's rampant unemployment. There's a constitutional restriction which doesn't allow for ease of business to Indian companies and MNC's. The Kashmiri populace is poor since they have no source of income and so the young misguided radicalised youth picks up guns against the Indian military at the behest of Pakistan paying them huge sums of money to carry out terrorist attacks in Kashmir killing both Indian military and Kashmiri people. 6. Just within a week, paramilitary forces of both India and Iran were killed by Jaish e Mohammed and Jaish al Adl respectively and both its leaders enjoy great support both from the Pakistani army and the local Pakistani people. 40 Indians and 27 Iranians were killed in suicide bombings and ewe attacks have been proudly claimed to have been carried out by both the organisations through video messages sent to both governments. 7. Like many young Muslims in the west, many Muslims in the Indian subcontinent especially Pakistan are getting radicalised at an unbelievable pace into Wahhabism and it's catching up in Kashmir as well now unfortunately. I have lived in Kashmir for 6 months over a period of 2 years and I can tell you that the people there only want peace. Yes there are few people who want a separate sovereign Kashmir state not wanting to be with either India or Pakistan, but most of them just want to earn a livelihood and live in peace. Any person who's visited India will know that Indian people are in general peaceful people. Mosques all across India call for prayer at 4 AM every morning on loudspeakers. If Hindus or Christians or Sikhs were so Anti Muslim we'd have stopped all that. Everyone except Muslims are allowed to marry than once and that's because Muslim personal laws are not respected in India. Muslim countries like Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan have banned the Muslim call for prayer in all their mosques and Muslim men in Tajikistan can't even grow beards! We want a secular society with democratic values and we have been so for the last 72 years so far. The moment Pakistan sponsored cross border terrorism stops in Kashmir Indian para-military will be out of there. It's only stationed there because of security concerns.
@MKPiatkowski5 жыл бұрын
One thing that Hasan didn't touch upon but is relevant here is that the unintended consequence of the one child policy is that most families chose to have boys. Thus, there is a serious gender imbalance in that generation. Combine that with global trends towards less women choosing to marry and have children. China has a serious problem, hence the push to marry girls off and have many babies. The gender imbalance makes things even more dangerous for young women in China. It also puts them in a powerful position as China can't afford to alienate that entire generation. Pretty sure that's why they're making movement on this.
@priyanka42332 жыл бұрын
It's most of Asia or east and south Asia. They prefer boys, I am from India, the thing about girls is their family has to pay for everything and we love marriage for some apparent reason. That's why people used to abort girls thinking they were a liability, the groom's family didn't pay for anything and you need to give gold and stuff. So now it's illegal to know the gender of your child here before birth. In metropolitan areas it has reduced but we have to still get better

For anybody curious, when someone says "i'm going to roll up my sleeve" it's an idiom (saying?) that means "I'm going to fight". And "I'll turn into a vegetarian" is an idiom (saying?) that means "are you looking down on me" or "you're saying bullshit" depending on how it was said.

Hasan - kudos to you and your crew. This show is going places. The DNA of "The Daily Show" is evident - more informative and assertive than traditional news.

I was studying abroad in China through a program with my university (I've learned the language for around 8 years). During our trip, our professor pulled us all aside and mentioned to us that day was the anniversary of the Tiananmen Square Massacre. We were told to not make any mention of it to locals; we could get in serious trouble for doing so. I hadn't felt scared to be in China up until that moment. Just for knowing history, I was feeling like a target. But it remains all the more baffling to me that, as proud as China is of their history and customs, they are still willing to hide their mistakes as if they are immune to the forces that dethroned countless dynasties before them.

Hell, the way "Manifest Destiny" is taught here we're made to think that the west was basically empty, and what conflicts there were involved "bad things being done on both sides". I was *not* taught how bad Wounded Knee was in high school.

The difference is it's less censorship by the state, and more censorship through control of the school curriculum by churches and civil organizations with political agendas. Evolution and Creationism are competing and equal theories, the civil war was about states rights, etc.
