Works like magic...after you break the guard and are going for the pass, hold on to your opponent's belt to avoid getting swept. This man is a genius. Thank for improving my BJJ.

Wished I learned this guard break earlier, but for me Saulo's emphasis on respecting and taking care of your training partner is why he seems to be such a great teacher and master. Digging knees into thighs and other douche moves that injure training partners are for morons who claim to train "UFC bro."

My name is David Bandini, I'm training at Carlson Grace school in London,I'm white belt with 3 stripes. I want to tell you really thanks for this lesson!! I pass few times the guard using this manner. The first time I did it I was surprised because usually I spend all my time trying to escape from the guard but today it was easy!! Thanks a lot!! Pardon my bad English....OSS!!

Love this guy and how he explains jiu jitsu. I also recognized that I used too much power using this guard pass, pushing and elbowing,... doesn't feel good. Will implement this escape. Now with just the amount of power needed to execute...

I have the same issue when passing...I often feel that I am using too much power...I will also be implementing his recommendations. Have you tried using this technique yet? Did it help you when passing the guard?

I love his swagger. That quiet confidence is awesome. "Go Chris...It's nothing. Go Chris go...go" He just sits there looking bored. You see this same swagger in some of his matches too. He's on a whole other level. So great.

Thank you very much for this string of videos. I am a newish white belt in a smash style gym. I am also the skinniest guy in the gym , 5'10" @ 140 lbs (6'5"" reach). I've learned that there are advantages to the pressure and smash style but I definitely struggle to open the guard with my bony elbow. I hate to disagree with my teachers but the kind of pressure I have to use on the lapel and thighs at the same time burns out my energy. I always use the traditional way first (in respect of my teacher) then quick switch directions->post my knee and rip through the guard. No subs yet but I am super happy break through whenever I want. You are awesome. Thank you. Side note to any long and skinny newbies...Fushida A1X fits me like a glove with an A1 belt. Also...defend everything. Forget attacks for now. With this mindset I can spar longer. The helplessness will start at brown belt though lol. Peace

The knee in the butt and elbow the thigh pass was the first guard pass I was taught by two different instructors. It's so ineffective. Why is this even taught at all? Like Saulo says, why hurt your training partner and why try to use strength like a bully when you can move efficiently utilizing your whole body with superb leverage like an artist. Saulo Ribeiro is the fucking man.
@dojanglesclimb
@dojanglesclimb 7 жыл бұрын
I've used this pretty effectively as of late. The key is to do it fast as fuck and even if you just make a little space you can go for double under hook pass or something else. Of course, it does take good posture to pull off and some grip fighting. If my opponent really holds me down then I go for the can opener or start fucking with his neck and stacking him until he has to let me go.

Problem I have with this technique is that when I put my foot out, and base to balance the smarter purple, and blue belts will curl in and under hook the leg which leads to sweeps and Uma-Plata... any advise to this? I like the idea of this technique.
@skyearthsoul
@skyearthsoul 10 жыл бұрын
I'm a white belt so take what I am about to say with a grain of salt. If I understand what your saying correctly; just go for putting your shin down on the leg that they are attempting to curl with with your knee on the mat which will open up the possibility for a guard pass, or simply try and stand up and distance yourself from your grounded opponent while evading a sweep and breaking any grips. Hope that helps!
@basedvato
@basedvato 10 жыл бұрын
Thanks for advise. I think my problem was I was to squared up while doing this teq. I notice how his shoulders line is perpendicular to his opponents shoulder line... while crunching back with legs and small of back. I will re-attempt this on open mat this week. I been looking for high yield guard openings, that take minimal energy - like any teq takes many times to perfect, I wont give up yet.
