I was intimidated after just starting to read The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. The opening pages were really weird and I had a hard time to grasp what was actually transpiring. But eventually and after much effort I finally managed to get through the book. Also I used to face the same when started on some of Stephen King's books as they are really morbid. I am sure those who have read King will understand where I am coming from.

The Book Thief was a slow read for me. You perhaps found the concept of Death narrating the story to be a bit weird. It does some getting used to. The book thief did end up making me cry though.

And btw, Shatter me by tahereh mafi was so intimidating for me.. and after reading it I just loved it !!! I'd read all the books in this trilogy, it was a nice time reading 'em. And at the end of the book, I fell in love with AARON WARNER❤️❤️❤️

I was intimated by Anna Karenina because both of its volume and its origin which is Russian, but i ended up loving it. Tolstoy in true sense a psychoanalyst I'd say, he captured tiniest human emotions in Anna Karenina, that's why I have the War and peace now. Another one was Canterbury tales, as again, it is a classic, and a long long poem. I delayed and delayed the reading, but afterwards i loved most of it. Now I've pillars of the earth which is a 1200 pages book but I am very comfortable as this is my favourite genre i.e. historical fiction. Iam somewhere scared when dealing with translated classics as there are chances that unsuitable translation, page quality, fonts or absence of foreword can actually ruin the whole experience. A lot of research work I've to do 😀

Milkman? I am very very very disappointed with that book. I picked up that book as a Booker prize winner but i was at loss. I stopped at 100 pages, found absolutely no story, pages after pages full of heavy words that make no sense or atleast i couldn't understand, very poor punctuation, very very slow. I absolutely hated that book 😔😔 And a thing I've observed, i didn't love any booker prize winner, I've read Disgrace by JM Coetzee, Finkler question by Howard Jacobson, Sense of an ending by Julian Barnes, The white tiger by Arvind Adiga though i was able to complete them atleast. But milkman is exception, turned out to be very bad for me.

The reason I stopped reading it was because I found it absolutely impossible to get into. This was the first time I had picked it up. However, I couldn't get it out of my head so I picked it up again. I did some research before reading it though. And I read it very slowly this time. 50 pages in, I realised how brilliant it was, and simply could not put it down, despite the slow pace. At the end of the day, opinions are subjective. And, who can understand this better than us readers?
