I hunt with a savage axis 2 chambered in 30-06 and I love it.

Looked at one of these actions at a big hunting stores near me, and honestly was somewhat disapointed with how loose and sloppy the action was. I mean the bolt had a lot of side to side play. Also the pull and push action was somewhat rough I mean you had to really pull and push on it, if you tried to do it slowly there was no easy way to do it, it did not glide as you would expect. I did not like the movement of the bolt handle either, this feature should be stationary in my opinion of course. Not trying to knock on Savage, infant I'm glad one of the companies in the US is giving this action type a chance. Savage should take a closer look at the Beretta rifle or any of the other straight pull actions produced in Europe. I get it, everything is produced to a price point. For now I'm staying with a smooth well made bolt action until the straight pull action is made to my liking. Just my experience not trying to knock on anyone.

Are you saying that my Dad's Model 99 in 250-3000, wasn't innovative or accurate? Or maybe the Impulse is the 21st century model 99.

Looking to get one of these in a 6.5 PRC. The stock magazines are 2+1, are larger capacity mags available anywhere?
@mattbrewer580811 ай бұрын
Was that a special order stock? Looks like Kryptek Typhon camo but I don’t see that anywhere on the savage site as a “factory” option. Thanks!
@EastmansHuntingJournals8 ай бұрын
@mattbrewer5808, yep, that was a special order stock. We got to go to the Savage factory and help on the build of these...pretty epic! Savage does a good job of interjecting new technologies and machining with old school tools and know-how from the long-term employees in the factory.

As with most things that lose weight it gets much more expensive. Going from 8.9 lbs to 7.34 lbs costs the consumer $1000. I could almost buy two Ultra Light in 7 PRC, 300 WSM or 280 AI for that cost. Pretty cool tour of the facility there. I would love to do that someday and even build my own rifle. I actually have 3 Savage rifles. A late 90s M110 in 270 Win, the new Long Range Hunter in 300 WSM (of which the adjustable brake isn’t adjustable) and the A17 in 17 HMR (of which is a single shot semi). Definitely accurate rifles at a good value. I know that customer service will take care of me.

Never mind on the comment about cost. They added a $900 Proof Research barrel along with losing weight. That adds a great bit to the cost and value.

AND, the bolt can be switched for LEFTIES!!!!!! That magazine looked like it went it very well. How hard is it to go in with a loaded mag?
@EastmansHuntingJournals Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question! It is easy to put the magazine in when it is loaded with ammo...👍

Do these rifles have a metal trigger guard? Would love to have this rifle chambered in 280 Ackley Improved.

@carlmarks6145 the trigger guard is polymer. Thanks for asking and watching the vids!

I have many Savage, even my Grandfather's 300 savage. I'm not sure about this mechanism. Seem sloppy, hard to move...wonder how it works at freezing weather and snow

@greasemonkey4god2 жыл бұрын
Ya… they are like $2500… cool that it’s ambidextrous pull too though. Lots of chamberings. And I thought it said 6.6lb?
@dederonair2 жыл бұрын
Its available in a lot of different ones on their site, but I dont see a impulse under 7.3lbs according to their specs, over a pound heavier then their 110 ultralight line and 1000$ more...
