I am of the opinion that the surface of that area in question can be adequately smoothed without bolt disassembly at all. Using good vision aid if needed, an optivisor or such, use roatary grinding and polish bits to carefully work the area, there are diamond bits, cratex bit, many other types of abrasive that will do the job. Do a good flush out with solvent and air afterwards, the trace of polishing residue that would remain is of no consequence in the rifle.

Hi Gary, yes indeed you are right & thankyou for your interest. Not that I actually considered this at the time - however not everyone have these tools you mention. Its also more of an informative/awareness video of the damage that can occur if not checked. I believe now Savage have a rectified the nasty sharp edge.

Thanks for the tip - Miles Sun did 2 vids on this over 2 years ago ! Savage should have corrected this issue wayyy long ago ! Sacrificial parts is a 'disposable society' problem. Savage should at least package 2-3 spares with every gun.

I have gone through about 500 rounds and I haven't had one feed issue, damage to ammo, or failure of any kind. I have the B22 precision with the green cerakote. I'm a new shooter so I'm looking at 3" groups at 100 yards, but I think I can get better

Who can I contact to get another magazine for my savage b22 FV LR ..
@gungan58223 жыл бұрын
New B22 owner. Just checked. This spot is now not a sharp edge, it has been flattened from a knife edge to a flat. Though the edges of the flat that runs along the surface of the bolt are still not totally smooth.
@JeepnStu3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I'd heard that savage has done something about the issue. Good to know. Also good to know all the ins and out of your rifle. Cheers
@gungan58223 жыл бұрын
@@JeepnStu I smoothed the edges with a little light filling. Don't think I need to take the full Dremel to it. My bigger concern is feeding from the mag. The bottom of the breech keeps scraping every bullet that goes in. Instead of a smooth feeding ramp into the breech (filing down the lead), it's a feeding ramp into a knife edge that the round has to jump over.
@JeepnStu3 жыл бұрын
I don't think I have that problem, I'll have a look, thanks
@gungan58223 жыл бұрын
@@JeepnStu Yeah, the breach end of the barrel is convex, with the hole in the middle. The feeding ramp(s) are little nubs on their side of the breach. The middle has no ramp because the bolt slide that pushes the round out of the mag fits between them. The ramps don't go all the way to the edge of the breach because the rim of the cartridge needs room to sit flush with the end of the breach. So when the round comes out of the mag, it keeps getting caught on the edge where the rim of the cartridge sits at the bottom of the breach. Since the end of the breach is convex, it's a knife edge shaving off lead. Not even a right angle, but sharper. That's assuming it doesn't jam completely.

Yeah ok, I'll get back to you. Thanks

I think they have now. Still worth having a look at your bolt. You can almost see if it has the sharp edges without dismantling the bolt. Happy shooting!

Asking because I don't know..... if you dont do this, wouldnt it eventually wear or break in? Seems like that pin would be harder than the thin edge of the bolt... has anyone just tried to work the action 1000 times to see if it breaks in?
@JeepnStu4 жыл бұрын
Hi John, no mate it doesn't fix it self of break in. What you are left with is a hole in your action pin! The edges on the bold body where the pin rolls over are so sharp it cuts a hole in the pin. I'd show an image of it but can't on here. Have a look at a vid by Sun Miles - his part two video on this issue. He shows a great shot of what happens to the pin. Besides this if you have just bought your B22 or B17 you may find the issue has been addressed by Savage. Hope this helps.
