This game is funny. It actually treats King Lion and Leo as two distinct characters instead of just a case of a copy of the character for the sake of gameplay with no real canonic explanation. In the same year of 1995 SNK released Real Bout FF1 with the same concept of Geese having an imposter. If the player decides to use either Billy Kane or Geese Howard against the CPU, the final boss is regarded as a shadow, a doppleganger.

Usually the Weaker Version is the Boss as a Playable Character, while the Stronger Version is his Final Form in Any Fighting Game.
