Turning 67, 1/23/25, I can muddle up a fly or two with these hands becoming more shaky. That one turned out nice enough to feed fish. Thanks Matt.

Well done. I always leave my bloopers in the videos as well. I believe that most tyers don't know how to fix a mistake. It is a great opportunity to provide a method on how to fix vs. to start over. After all the fish don't care. I take my hat off to you in sharing the occasional Oops in fly tying.

Been trying to emulate the ‘North Country Spiders’ from across the pond. Thus, I was introduced to tying with Starling. Must say that it has been humbling as Starling is so short & fragile. Props for your video!

Good Morning! As a newer tyer, I think it's not only important to see the "mistakes" but also how to RECOVER from them. Yea, I get a pattern 80% complete and my thread breaks or hackle breaks and instead of wasting all that work, I think "okay, I saw ____________ do the same thing, and here's how HE fixed it..." and then I can do the same, keep going and save my effort!! And yeah, it's getting pretty cold for that style of HAT but Spring will be here soon enough!!

Truly is a good looking and simple fly. I'll be attempting to tie this up tonight. Like others that have commented, I like it when creators leave in their mistakes and then proceed to show how they fix them. I just started tying my own lures when I retired at the age of 67, so I need all the help that I can get (warts and all). Nice looking hat and cup!

Starling has many uses . Use it allot for spider patterns. Unfortunately the stem is a little brittle. Good recovery. I'm glad I'm not the only one who has times at the vise where things don't always go as planned. Heck I've had days where I just stop and take a break and come back to start over . Like the hat and mug . Thanks for sharing. Have a wonderful day .
