My closest dealer is already stating they are doing a $100k markup on ZR1s. The dealership model is broken beyond repair, and if politicians were in their pockets, they would have removed the legal barriers preventing direct to consumer sales structures. This NEEDS to happen.

What a fabulous film! Getting a behind the curtain chat with engineers is always a treat. I love that they admit to bench marking against Ferrari & Porsche, and the fact they have owned various examples too. 1064hp from a stock corvette with a warranty…. What a great time for enthusiasts. Hopefully they can control scummy dealer markups that will then put a black eye on this car.

I always thought the fact that someone could stroll into a showroom and buy a regular, production car with over 700 horsepower, WITH A WARRANTY, is absolutely amazing. And now that gets pushed even further. I don't think we'll actually be able to get one for...like...forever (at least not without paying a CRAZY markup)...but someday, you'll be able to walk in and buy a car with over 1000 horsepower. The taste of the design and color schemes of the Corvette is the best in the industry. I don't think there's any color combination I don't like. Just the right amount of distinction without being gaudy or ostentatious. You can certainly tell up close or from a distance they put a lot of time and though into creating all of them. I couldn't disagree more with the engineer. You don't need a screaming engine to enjoy the need for speed. He is correct in that you lose the sensation of speed. But not everyone needs that to enjoy going fast. That raucous engine is one experience I've never shared with sports car enthusiasts. That's why in a luxury car you think you're going 50mph until you look down at the speedometer, and realize you're going 90mph. That's why for me, quite is the sound of a well-made car.

A quiz for the comments section. Which car is worse to own out of warranty, an Eray or twin turbo ZR-1? Best is the Stingray of course. Second best is the Z06 which won't be cheap out of warranty if something goes wrong. Maybe a jump ball between rare ZR-1 and Eray. Eray still has to lose the reliability cost contest due to completely redundant drive train and computers combining the two powertrains, degrading electronics etc. Poor people who think they can save a buck buying a 5 year old Eray or ZR-1, be careful what you wish for. It will be comical watching in forthcoming years. Reliability cost always shows up in resale aka BMW, MB and Tesla's worth a fraction of their value in 5 years. PS. Tadge Juechter, long-time Chief Engineer of the Corvette in this video knows. He chose a base 3LT convertible Stingray as his personal retirement car. I get why he didn't choose the Eray as many will understand as being antithetical to the brand, but maybe a surprise he didn't choose the Z06.
@markstreeter9920Сағат бұрын
I think even in 5 years they will be unobtainable for 99% of people price wise, regardless of maintenance cost. For silly fast cars, electric will be the most affordable and way cheaper to maintain.
@lukewalker105147 минут бұрын
@@markstreeter9920 I believe you are right Mark. Handwriting on the wall. Cost of living in America. A new era of the automobile. Interesting that the Biden administration, who publicly denigrates the conservative position of tariffs on import of Chinese goods, has basically killed import of cheap Chinese EV's into America with tariffs that without, would singlehandedly kill the American auto industry and why they did it. America can't afford to lose its auto industry, at least not precipitously...maybe over time as automobiles evolve even further more toward robo-taxis. Everybody and their brother would buy a $20K Chinese EV if they were available. The American auto industry is already teetering due to the contradictory message of 'EV or bust' to the American auto industry when the consumer still wants gas cars due to lack of infrastructure, higher cost of EV's and poor Li-Ion battery energy density. The auto industry is even complicit. EV's for the masses would be MUCH cheaper if automakers adapted a 'generic' Li-Ion battery pack that would work in many car brands. Instead for profit, they opt for proprietary batteries which makes EV's more expendable. A Tesla 3 series is a throwaway car after about 7-8 years as the battery dies is an example. PS. I had Thanksgiving dinner yesterday with the granddaughter of Preston Tucker who was among friends and family attending. Tucker's story is quite compelling as part of American automotive history.
