Savannah Girl ft. Clementina da Graca Elias by Samira Vera-Cruz [English Subtitles]

Clementina da Graça Elias is determined to achieve what her grandmother could only dream of. Hailing from the Macua minority in northern Mozambique, Clementina was raised with the belief that girls could never pursue education beyond high school, let alone enter the realm of science. Defying these expectations, she is now in her final year of a master's program in biology, conducted at Gorongosa National Park, renowned for its
stunning biodiversity, successful conservation efforts and education programs.
Her research focuses on the impact of fire and mammal herbivores on the soil and vegetation of the savannah. Growing up, her grandmother taught her about plants and their medicinal purposes. Though she didn’t know their scientific names, she understood their healing properties. Clementina now combines this traditional knowledge with her scientific studies, aiming to inspire little girls who, like her, have been told that a future in science is beyond their reach.
