Your the only one on KZbin that talks about backfeeding the old phone line from the demarcation box! I thought it would be as easy as plugging your old phone into the back of the Ooma box?

Yes and no - you can plug in your old phone into the back of the Ooma box, but it would only work with that one phone, unless you're using a splitter like me where it also goes into the wall jack plug. Plugging the Ooma into the wall jack without first removing the old telephone wiring from the pole to your home can fry out the device. They also warn you about this in the manual as well.

@@bestofonlineshopping1502 so if we get the extra wireless Ooma phones, we can plug in our old phone with the answering machine, and still use it. Then the wireless Ooma phones would work throughout the home? I have a fax machine in one of the bedrooms. Can I still plug into the POTs line?

If you disconnect the telco pole wiring at the box outside, then you can backfeed the Ooma device into your phone jack (either directly or via a 2-3 way splitter that your old phone is also connected to as well - this is the option that I did). Then it'll backfeed the service throughout all of your home phone's wiring and your old phones will work as they previously did. This would include corded phones, cordless phones, fax machines. To the best of my knowledge, your fax machine should still work to transmit and receive them, although I haven't personally tested this. Here's some helpful info on this from their site: support.ooma.com/home/faxing-with-ooma/ My old phone has an answering machine as well and it'll pickup calls after a certain number of rings as it used to. Before you do this though, make sure you set the Ooma cloud answering machine to be at a higher number of rings to pickup than your current old phone answering machine. So for example, if your old phone answering machine is set to pickup after 10 rings, make sure your Ooma cloud answering machine is setup to pick up after 11 rings or more. Otherwise, the Ooma cloud answering machine will pick up the calls first and it'll never reach the number of rings so that your old phone with the answering machine picks it up. This is something that you can change on their website. The wireless Ooma phones don't actually plug into a traditional phone jack, they're completely wireless and are paired with your base station. You can add them pretty much anywhere as long as you're within range of the base station.

Does it have a contact list or favorites so I can call faster without having to look up a phone number?

important: activate first before turning on ooma base!
