The Problem with clones are the ingredients. Even if you use hightech equipment to scan the original formula to nearly reformulate its olfactory combination and effect. You can't catch the spirit of the original ingredients which were used. And therefor you won't replicate the "magic' of a the scent. Clone factories for example use the Moma - Mars organic molecular analyser. The results always will be a dead copy. For example, the Creed Aventus, is an copy of a Mazzolari Scent which was only available in the Milano Hq. The Creed Aventus has in its roots a certain Mazzolari DNA, which you only notice by olfactory knowledge. Creed works, but does a non knowing know how the Mazzolari scent works? Mazzolari has arround 100 different scents available which they do not sell online and only could be purchased in the store in Milano by good clients. If you use a scent, which is Basedow on non synthetic ingredients in its dna, and they were just put together to reformulate a masterpiece, you will immediately not caught by the "magic". I have one of the first Dior pour homme Iris parfumes which is till today the pure narcotic Iris smell. You can't resist this "magic".

Your smell, signature is the product of your own in time emotional mental personality. Your personal bodychemistry is the Lab, and your skin is the spreader, dilutes evaporates and so on. Dogs for example instantly detect whos there next. Only one smell knocks them out 😂

I'm going to answer in two parts because I want to respond in a more detailed comment to back my thoughts up. First, I want to add some context since your comment is pinned and many people may get a very biased impression of clones vs luxury/designer. MANY companies don't have access to the formulas in their perfumes. This is not exclusive to cloning brands. Many brands work with perfume houses and directly with perfumers-perfume houses keep their formulas a secret even from brands. Loreal-owned companies likely have access to their formulas because they source raw ingredients. However, most companies do not source their own ingredients because it is costly, fragrance is tightly regulated, and there are constant adjustments for allergens, which perfume houses are more equipped to adapt to. Cloning brands are, yes, taking the essence of something and making their own fragrance, but all budget fragrance houses make decisions around ingredients and notes, keeping their target in mind. No $30 fragrance is going to have 100 ingredients. It's not going to be profitable. Composing a perfume that is cheaper and can smell similar or hold its own magic is an art in itself. Fragrance is an art and a hobby. Wear what you want and what you can afford. I don't want to come across as putting you down just adding to the discussion. There's so much discussion around "clean" ingredients, which sparked its own industry, and I think it can add to fear-mongering. Everyone doesn't want to spend a lot of money and everyone doesn't want a unique or complex scent. All fragrances are regulated by the IFRA so they are not going to give someone allergies the scent is always going to be a matter of preference/subjectivity.

Secondly, I want to follow up by saying that I love that you enjoy the highest quality that you can afford, and I think it's great that you recommended scents you enjoy, but "superior" doesn't belong in this discussion. Your comment pushes a very colonial perspective, which can be read as dehumanizing to some. Fragrance can be enjoyed at many price points. Western perfumes and methods are not superior that is your opinion. A lot of Arabian perfumes may actually be copying things on the Western market, but they also have their own culture and a long history of perfume making, so in due time, we may see more things that are influenced by their own culture or a combination of cultures. I think that is exciting. I didn't see myself looking into ouds until I bought Arabic perfumes and i'd love for more overall competition and perfume perspectives. Gourmound is such a new scent profile and I think there's a lot more to discover. Hope you have a great day.
