Save the Majestic Theater Streator, IL

Passing through Streator, we came across this fabulous old theater in need of restoration. Hope they can restore it to it's former glory for future generations to enjoy.

I hope they are able to generate enough funds and save it. If it's haunted, they can always do ghost tours and let investigators in there, to get a bit of revenue back, and if it's not haunted, they could still do history tours. Lovely mural on the wall. Great little video!

Not sure if haunted but did have some big name acts there such as Groucho Marx and Jack Benny. But who knows, there are a lot of theaters that have some kind of haunting. Thanks for watching.

I was born and raised in Streator a lot of of my family members and my relatives live in Streeter me and my dad would pass by it. It’s in the same area as the post office and Ace Hardware. I would ask him why is that closed? He said someone stole films or like documents I don’t remember which one he told me.

What a fantastic, gorgeous theater. I hope they get the funds to restore this beautiful historical building. I would watch a movie and or see a show at this place compared to some of the other so-called modern venues which are basically OK but I find them to be boring cold no character it’s just glass steel/metal with white and assorted gray tones. Not welcoming, not comforting, not entertaining to the ice so to speak, at least with these old places everything had such amazing detail the seats, balconies, walls, handrails, curtains, the stage, staircases, entry halls, & even the washrooms. everything these new buildings * cinemas etc don’t have that. they’re just “sleek and modern and efficient.” I find them drab boring and distasteful. I hope they’re able to restore it to its original condition . Unsure of when the building was built looks like possibly during the 20s or 30s or even the 40s. What an absolutely amazing monument. I agree with a lot of the commenters places like this have to be saved. I agree, Sean if there was just even a small little opening where you could look through just to see what’s going on inside that would’ve been fantastic but great video. Thanks Jenna. I agree theaters now don't have the character like old theaters. I always like the Art Deco styling of many of old theaters and even the earlier era's. I plan to cover more of these and really want to cover the Arcadia theater in St. Charles, IL and The Rialto theater in Joliet, IL both have a historic past and both have had strange things happen and reported to be haunted. Both are still in operation today and need to contact them and see if I can film sometime outside business hours. I do hope they are able to save these historic theaters.
