We need to forget National politics, and work in our communities with or without local authorities to help each other build local Photo Bio Reactors on a village, community scale. National political parties & big business have been suppressing this low tech Carbon Sequestering /Electricity/BioGas producing solution for 12 years when it was first getting a bit of traction.

On industrial scale two methods are used to grow Algae, one is in Photo Bio Reactors(PBR) and the other is in ‘’Race Ways’’ ( long narrow pools). So to make things simple and not need pumps, electricity etc, I cut the top off my 5Litre water bottles so the Algae can grow from CO2 in the open Air, I give them a stir a couple times a day to floculate the Algae and help indtroduce more Air into the Water. But don’t like to buy things, just from what I can salvage, as I don’t like new stuff having to be manufactured.

Any given person would need 2 IBC containers of this stuff cooking, with optimal temperature, nutrients, and light distribution maintained indefinitely, just to offset the Co2 they put out in respiration alone. To "scale it up" you'd pretty much have to induce algal blooms over most of the ocean, for an extended period of time, then collect all of it, and dump it in a stagnant swamp, or something similar, to prevent it from just releasing the carbon back into the atmosphere. The concept is already under consideration, if we can't figure something better out before it becomes a major issue.

Should also account for the fact that plants breath in oxygen at night and expel co2. If your CO2 is higher than it should be inside your algae might be adding to your co2 at night. During the day during photosynthesis, it does take in co2 to produce sugars but at night there is little to no photosynthesis which causes the plant to instead take in air and put out co2.

Then I use the Algae Bio Mass to feed my Methane Digester making it a cyclic process while permanently sequestering atmospheric CO2, and producing BioGas to cook my food. I also use the slime that builds up on the inside of a bucket I use to catch waste water from under my kitchen sink, to flush my toilet with. My Algae grows v well from both these sources of nutrients, but seems to grow better from the Slime in my sink waste water bucket!

Wow that’s awesome. I haven’t tried to make biogas yet. I probably will one day if I ever make enough money to retire and live off the grid in some remote piece of land. For now once I collect enough algae I’m going to apply high pressure (2000+psi) and 800 degrees of heat to turn the algae into an oil. Then I hope from there I can turn it into a gas and kerosene. Plants were growing just fine before we deforested most of the Earth, when there was the stable climate level of atmospheric CO2 at 270ppm, now it’s at a Biosphere Collapse level of 420ppm. The last time the Earth had the current 420ppm the Seas were approx 78 feet higher, we are only at the beginning of what 420ppm will do, so we need to permanently sequester the excess atmospheric CO2 in the next 5 years (if it’s not too late already) or we’re fucked! ✊🏽🌎🌻

One thing, nobody considers it what’s going to happen to the planet. Once we lose both ice caps forget about the rise of the sea we know that already. Mostly impacting the NE US/North Atlantic, ‘U’K & Scandinavia will get massive storms/ floods as happened in Northern Europe a few years back, when Streets were turned into raging rivers in 3 countries simultaneously!

I've been trying to find information on CO2 sinks that people can use at small scale, around the house or farm. The biggest problem regarding algae is the same as with all other plant-based solutions: You can't just keep the photosynthetic organism exponentially growing *forever* and if it burns, or rots, or is transformed to fuel, or is eaten, etc, the carbon it fixed ultimately ends up back in the atmosphere. That can serve as something of a carbon offset, algae burned as fuel is still of some benefit if it's burned instead of some fossil fuel, algae used to make a food product is lower energy and produces fewer emissions than most other foodstuffs, but it's not a carbon *sink* From what I've been able to find about the topic, Earth's micronutrient budget does not allow for simply burying gigatons of algae deep enough to prevent it's re-release as CO2. Best answer I can find is char it, and mix the char into compost or soil. This will lock some (but not all) of the carbon in a biologically inaccessible form, and ultimately lock it back in the ground where we found it to begin with, but without permanently locking away massive quantities of biologically important elements like phosophorus which were incorporated into the algae as it grew. But I'm just starting my journey here, so to speak, and I don't know a good method for charring algae. If you dried it out, put it in a sealed, fire-proof can, and heated the can to sufficient temperature (a campfire would be hot enough) that would probably do it, but the energy cost of that operation is very undesirable. If you were making biochar from other materials that are a little more ammenable to the process, just pit burning them or something, you could maybe top off that fire with cans of algae.

Personally, I am working to create plastic industrially from the algae, specifically polyethylene. The great thing about polyethylene is that the carbon will stay fixed in that form and can even be turned into something useful. It makes way more sense than making the plastic out of oil pumped from the ground, and it traps the carbon in the plastic. When we bury the plastic, the environment becomes anaerobic, and even plastic degrading organisms cannot degrade the plastic, therefore it is trapped under the ground where it came from in the first place. Trust me, this is the way. Also, plastic is not as bad as you might think overall. Think of it like wood. It is made of carbon made from plants, just in a different form.

a few thoughts. 1. we absolutely should take action and be mindful 2. you 'counter reacting' to MTG is a stretch, she's a very dumb person and I mean that as in, she is a science denier and does not have any critical thinking skills. If she does she does not demonstrate or espouse to them. So acting is goo, REACTING because of her... is weird. But yes shes in a position of 'leadership' 3. Stuff like this is great BUT its a lot like recycling. Individual recycling has nearly zero effect. Its a minute amount and only like 10-20% of what we recycle is actually recycled. Its down to these huge mega companies.... 4. When the word DOES implode a fuel source other than oil is a good idea. I always thought an eel / fish / algie thing would be a great system. Nasa has explored this some. 5. Do we have any idea what the biproduct of this is?
