I retired several years ago and it was about that time that I started collecting DIY recipes for craft supplies. I very rarely buy new supplies now except for basics (tape, glue, etc.). I purchase ultra-fine glitter, mica, general mediums, etc. and create my own shimmer, glimmer and metallic finishes and sprays for a lot less. I totally agree with you! Since watching your videos, my mission has been hunting the perfect mylar or acetate to make my own stencils. 😊 My card "style" has become more clean & simple in recent times, so I thoroughly enjoy your videos (and your "can do" personality!). Thanks for all you do! 💕

Thanks for the reminder about making my own stencil paste. I've bought so many different pastes but very rarely use them. Some of them thicken or dry out over time and I end up throwing away product that I bought.

I didn't even know Nuvo had this product, but I do know we used to use the glimmer dust on top of embossing paste years ago, probably back in the 90's. I prefer your homemade embossing paste and glitter over the Nuvo one. Much nicer looking to me and for pennies like you said. We need to do all we can to keep costs down as this hobby can get quite expensive. Brilliant video! Hugs, Brenda

I love that you’re a UK based crafter … some of my US favourites, who are so inspiring, mention their products as if expense isn’t an issue (well, it isn’t if you’re sponsored!) and that’s before you add super expensive postage.I’m trying to take the tack of using and getting creative with what I have. The home made stencil paste is fab … I used cornflour as I had some in the cupboard! I think I’m rather obsessed with making teeny mixed media panels 😂😂

A grand idea! I have both embossing paste with glitter and regular embossing paste and the Diamond Dust! The idea is just in time for some cards I am making with vellum butterflies! Thanks for this idea, Christine. I have many, many pastes and ultra-fine glitter so I may try this next time I want something for dimension and sparkle when I use a stencil. There's not enough time in the day for me to use up all the product I acquired during the pandemic when I first retired! I'm working on it though.

Thanks for sharing Chris. I prefer your home made one as well. You could also put a small amount on paste on your mat, sprinkle glitter dust onto oil and mix together before putting onto your stencil. Either way the home made is I think a better look.

I think you would use a lot less twinkle by sprinkling it on top rather than mixing it in to achieve a similar effect.😊

It's ironic it costs so much in the UK, considering Tonic is a British company! Would it be cheaper to order directly from the UK site than Amazon? I've often found that Amazon prices are inflated vs ordering from the company directly. TYSM for sharing your homemade embossing paste! I'll have to give it a go!

I got mine in a deal as I said, directly from Tonic, but there other colours were much more expensive. I think you could use different coloured paint with matching ultra fine glitters!

FYI Amazon does have inflated prices for most items. A pot of Nuvo Glimmer paste is actually "only" about 6 or 7 pounds at several UK craft sites, including Tonic UK. Think the Nuvo paste is likely more translucent that a paste made with an opaque base, such as would result from using talcum powder. The white card would not show a difference in translucency. So the preference would probably depend on the end goal, e.g. whether you're just after a bit of glisten or are seeking a more translucent glimmer. Regardless many thanks for sharing your recipe!

I think £6 or £7 is still a lot of money unless you can find it on offer somewhere, I wanted to try it, but for such a small amount I think it’s very expensive!

I love Glamour Dust, I didn't have any sparkle paste so put some mod podge in a small pot and added lots of Glamour Dust, it turned out lovely and I still have some left weeks later

Your homemade is more sparkly than the expensive one. does the glitter stay stuck and not fall off - think it would due to the paste and all. Just wondering :) Love that you look out for our crafting dollars/lbs. Thanks Christine.

Thanks so much for subscribing, I pursued art as part of my training as a primary school teacher. I began card making in 2007, when my daughter requested that I make her wedding stationery. I haven't stopped card making since then. If you put different words into your search engine to try to find UTEE, you may be more successful. Try ultra high! I have had mine for a very long time!

Hi Chrissy, I have a question, I have never had a successful cut with my sillouette, what settings do you use to cut mylar, or even thicker card, I'm stumped, and I now just don't use it at all, I'm sure there's something wrong with either my settings or the machine.

My Silhouette has problems with really thick Mylar, but cuts 125 microns well. I tend to use the setting for the heaviest weight cardstock, which goes slowly and does 2 passes. Heavy Coverstock 122lbs or something like that!
