I plant my seeds in a bucket of black dirt enriched with manure. I keep the dirt constantly wet and here in Florida the temp is warm enough that they grow. I discovered this by accident when I transplanted some of the rhizome. I’ve been growing cannas since and have LOADS of these growing all over my property!

That is amazing. I wish we could do that here in the Pacific Northwest. If I get ambitious I’ll dig the rhizomes in the fall but it’s a ton of work and they take up a lot of storage room till spring.

Very new to this and my little plants look like the ones in the tray with the habanero seeds. How long do I let them grow here? I will need to replant them inside I think as it is still too cold in KY.

I would pot them up. Mine are still in the trays but I’m going to pot them up this week and move them out to the cold frame. I’m in zone 7a. Still cold at night but daytime warms up. They will need more room to grow on. I’ll do a video this week of that.

Have you bought seeds from any place online? I was wanting some canna plants that i don't have yet they're several with beautiful leaves that i didn't know existed and some with exotic blooms like the Zebra and they are very hard to get I've bought several bulbs and I never get the right plant from the vendor and by the time they are going to replace they're out of stock. I want to just buy seeds from now on. I have had a little success last year in growing mine from seed not knowing a thing about scaring or soaking just by putting them in soil and in my greenhouse and luck. My first greenhouse also. Can you tell me a reputable place to buy seeds from if you can i really would appreciate it. I loved your video and learned a lot from it Thank you so much for sharing such knowledge. :-)

What is a heat mat.....do you have to have the cells on it or just cover with plastic
@lisahawley19203 жыл бұрын
A heat mat just warms up the soil so that you seeds germinate faster. You could just stick your tray in a warm place and keep covered. Probably will take a little longer to germinate

Are canna seeds true to the mother plant, unlike some other plants like Desert Rose (Adenium) and Plumeria, which don’t always mimic the color profile of the parent plants.
@lisahawley19203 жыл бұрын
Canna seeds are just like other seeds. If they are a hybrid then you might not get plant true to the mother plant.. if you have a canna indica, canna glauca or a canna iridiflora it is most likely not a hybrid and therefore will be true to its seed. If you want to be sure to get a flower true to why you have I would dig the rhizome and store for winter if you don’t live in a zone where they can be wintered over

@@lisahawley1920 thank you Lisa! I’m actually in zone 8b, Central Texas, so i never have to dig them up! Where do you put the pot with the seeds in? Do the need dark? Heat? I.e an airing cupboard. I have mine on the top (back part) of the fridge. Also do you have a thermostat with your heat mat? I’m asking because I filed and put them in water and left them to soak for about 4 days at room temperature. Nothing has happened. So I drained the water and resoaked them and put them on the top of the fridge just before watching your video. Any advice?

When I’m soaking my seeds I usually just set them by my sink so I don’t forget to plant them. Once I plant them in trays I put them on the heat mats. My heat mats are cheap ones and don’t have thermostats built into them. My guess is they are about 70 degrees. The brand of my heat mats are Hydro Farm and if I remember right they were only about 10 dollars each. No darkness. I would pot them up as soon as possible. You don’t want to soak to long. Hope this helps
