The fact that people are trying to say that their masculinizing black women in this show is literally embarrassing. She is a character her existence should not be a resemblance for every single black woman in real life. They’re not saying a narrative that this is how all black women act y’all are projecting.
@jazminebrown29243 жыл бұрын
While I totally agree with what you said, your mindset is for the people that are mature and use critical thinking skills. The reason that a lot of people are saying that the show is perpetuating the masculinization of black girls in Aisha’s character is because a lot of people base their opinions on others that align with stereotypes. As a more feminine black girl, I wasn’t awarded the same privilege that my other counterparts were, simple due to my race. I was not viewed as “feminine” as my white or Hispanic classmates. So going back to what you said about how Aisha’s character should not resemble every black woman in real life. That is so true but people of other races won’t view it that same way. They might look at Aisha’s character and heighten her more “masculine” traits because it fits the running narrative of black women as more masculine in comparison to other races.
@jazminebrown29243 жыл бұрын
I understand how for some people the backlash might seem as a reach but for a lot of black girls, and now women, it’s stems from fear of being labeled as more masculine which in turn leads to the overall disrespect of black women
@CaptainChapin3 жыл бұрын
@@jazminebrown2924 Also y’all need to realize that white media will always put theirs first we have the privilege of being represented in their media. It is our own fault for not creating black owned outlets for our youth to feel safe and excepted and validated. Now we’re at the mercy of Disney Netflix and other white media outlets to give us the representation that black women are so desperately seeking for. The solution starts with us
@jazminebrown29243 жыл бұрын
@@CaptainChapin You are so right! That is extremely important, and I know that the black community has tried to create black spaces in the past (i.e. B.E.T) and now with Jordan Peel and his up and coming projects. But I think that the fact still remains that there is still systemic racism, and it’s easier said than done. I do agree that a solution does start with the black community but we can not get there all on our own, well at least not in the U.S

But he doesn't know the experience of what it's like to be black, let alone a black woman. I don't think it would make any sense. Life really be like that, many white people just will never understand what it's like to walk in our shoes, always an outsider and never belonging despite being born and raised here. Being treated like a second class citizen, second guessing yourself, watching people already make assumptions about you upon looking at your skin colour when they don't even know who you are rather than take the time to reserve judgement and get to know you. I don't think most white people could understand especially when most of their friends and family are white and they only speak to one or two black people like how many of these shows portray. It's deep bro
