It was especially sad that the unrequited love continued for so long, and preventing him from moving on and finding happiness with someone else. However, what was cute was the friendship that grew between them toward the end of the series.

At 2:28, the black guy in the dark green jacket appears to be seen walking down the stairs. Then 2:35, he towards walking down the stairs again. As a kid, I remember watching this and I was like, "That black guy again like deja vu." At 2:44, there is the same black guy with the glasses in the background, who is with the Asian girl (he is seen with another girl in the theater in some episodes). He was/is the greatest background character in this history of television! He and the twins (Jennifer and I forget her sister's name) are probably the most iconic Saved By the Bell Background characters!

@@badgyrl310 I agree, and I too would have liked to see Kelly and Screech’s relationship last longer. She would have been a much better match for him than Lisa, with whom he had very little in common. I thought it was nice that Kelly was the kind of person who could accept someone like Screech, see his good side and not mind his goofiness. Lisa was put off by his nerdiness, but was attracted to Zack, partly because she liked his mischievous nature. But yes, the interracial relationship was too controversial for them.

I don’t think they ever had any plans to bring Screech and Lisa together as a couple. I think they wanted to pair Lisa up with a Black guy, and Screech with a brainy nerdy White girl, even though those never happened in the end either. But they did want Screech and Lisa to become friends.

@@nancyhey1012 The producers did do that. Have you forgotten? Screech had a girlfriend for like 4 - 5 episodes. She was a nerdy girl named Violet and they were a perfect match, better chemistry than Zack & Kelly or Slater & Jessie. But then Violet disappeared, and they made Screech chase after Lisa again. Producers are dumb. Why they had to torture Screech and Lisa like that. He had the perfect girlfriend and Lisa couldn't be more happier for them. I'm disappointed in the producers for not giving Lisa a steady boyfriend. She dated a guy here and there but nothing meaningful. None of them last more than 1 episode. What Kelly did to Zach, cheating on him for that college guy that worked at the Max with her, only to be played and humiliated by him.

@@jcpenny3606 I remember that Violet was only on three episodes. I agree, their chemistry was great, and no explanation was given after she left. You’d think they could at least say that her family moved out of town and she transferred to another school or something. So yes, that was dumb of the producers. Plus they could have at least had Screech move on to another nerdy girl, and then let Lisa have a steady boyfriend. This is why both Dustin and Lark felt that the producers did them both dirty.

Lisa did not like Screech, in that way. She said that from day one. And never changed, her opinion. It wasn't cool, how they tried, to force her to like him. She was very pretty too. So why wasn't he chasing, the other girls too? She shouldn't have been put, in that position.

He was probably just afraid of getting a lot of rejections first though. The writers probably just wanted a reason for Lisa to ask him though, just to prove that she had a good heart and had always cared for him as a friend.

But not necessarily the ONLY one. I think Kelly and Jessie both considered him a friend too. They both just tried to convince him many times that he should let go of Lisa because she wasn’t interested in him in a romantic way, so they were just being honest with him. Zack claimed to be Screech’s best friend, but he really was not a very good friend. He often encouraged Screech to pursue Lisa, even though he should know that he was just setting him up for failure.

It is odd to see the title of this video describing them as a romance, since they were never really a couple. I guess the owner of the video is just being humorous. But the series did show how they evolved as friends. Certain things about them were particularly memorable, such as their dance in the contest, the time Lisa asked him to the prom, and the valedictorian episode.

I too was happy that Lisa asked Screech to the prom. Because even though she found him annoying sometimes, she also knew that he was a good person, and didn’t deserve to be abused. I don’t think they had any plans to bring them together as a couple or get married, because interracial relationships were considered very controversial at that time. So they kept it just at the friendship level.

Actually, they were the same actors in junior high. Yes, Screech did have a crush on Lisa and pursued her in junior high. She rejected him, but she did try to defend him from the bully Deke, so I guess on some level she did consider him a friend.

Yes, those should have been included. There was a good scene from Miss Bliss where Lisa and the other friends tried to protect Screech from the bully Deke. That showed that even early on, Lisa really did care for Screech as a friend, even if she found him annoying.
