32 years sitting in the forrest gave this car our official pine needle count record. When we first found this car you almost couldn't tell what it was for all the pine needles covering it up. It is a 78 Ford Fairmont with all the options it a 302 V8 with air conditioning, power steering, cruise control, and power brakes. For those that don't know about these cars they are the father to the Fox Body Mustang because they came out a year before the mustang went to the platform so they share all the mechanical parts with the Mustang. As badly as I want to get it running it is so dirty that we had to clean in up first. Hope you like the video and stay tuned for the upcoming will it start video!

I'd be really pumped to see that engine get a nice 4bbl intake with a nice aftermarket 4bbl carb. It's clearly a smog engine, so it'll be gutless no matter what, but a 2bbl to 4bbl swap definitely wouldn't hurt. You ALWAYS got the hookups though. I've been dying to get my hands on a cool old domestic and they're impossible to find like that around Pittsburgh. They're either completely restored, completely picked through for parts, completely ridiculously expensive, or completely rusted.

Great video like always man, the Futura cleaned up really well and for a car that was in a swampy environment it held up pretty well. Sure the interior is baked but after the cleanup it's a solid car, and I am excited to see if she will fire up and run alongside the big-block Futura. I'm also hoping that the red brush painted boxtop Fairmont wasn't crushed so fingers cross!

Hey, Sleeperdude, love this car, I hope you go all the way with this one and make her shine again. But that's not why I am commenting. You asked in the video why does Rocky always want to eat cardboard? I can answer this as I have 40+ goats and actually run a goat care group. Rocky is lacking trace minerals. I noticed this a while ago, and Granny goat also lacks copper and Zinc. That reddish hue to their coat is a classic copper deficiency. Many states as well as Canada are deficient in selenium and copper so it's not anyone's fault, just that we need to supplement. Once you give copper you will see a big difference in their coats and shedding process. Sorry man, I couldn't help myself, but I am sure you understand I am only answering your question and answering with the best intentions at heart. I try not to miss an episode, love the cars and the family and your goats.

@@gertraba4484 yes, but wasn't a real production vehicle. the info I found: The vehicle was the result of a joint venture between Ford and National Coach Works, located in Los Angeles, California. While not officially a production vehicle or a replacement for the Ford Ranchero (which ended production after the 1979 model year), the Durango was designed as a potential competitor to the newly downsized Chevrolet El Camino and was commissioned by Ford to be sold through Ford dealerships. As no official totals were kept by either company production estimates vary between the low 200s and 350, with 212 conversions known to have been made by National Coach Works.

The Futura was in a lot better condition than many of the cars you get...have to wait and see about the motor, brakes, etc. It did clean up nicely though.

Only need to use some turtle wax on it. It is in better shape then I originally thought? Maybe the 302 will still turn over? The gas cap will may be indicate the concition of the motor. I like 302s though that is what was in my 67 Mustang and it was a pretty good ripper for a kid back in high school in 78. If not send it to the machine shop to have it bored over .10 thousands. And redo the crank and heads and everrything. I love old 302s. LOL the are a great running engine. Replace the intake valves in the heads with 2 inch chevy vavles Im not kidding and it will be very fast. thats what the guy at the machine shop told me the guys at the race track loved to do to them in the seventies and he said they loved them that way.

The Fairlane Futura is one of the best looking cars Ford made in the late 70's in my opinion anyway. I've always wanted one to hot rod. Lots of them were turned into drag cars. I'm jealous. Hope you can get it back on the road.

Definitely need to try and buff it with the buffer wheel, polish and wax it. It'll look like its wet all the time, it'll look amazing. It looks like it came from Utah around '89. Looked to have been parked in '91 or '92. That calendar in the car was from '91 I think. So parked about 30 years..? I always use Purple Power on interior and exterior. Vinyl, leather, and the exterior to get mold off. I haven't used bleach, I thought it might take the color out of my clothes, lol. You should try purple power sometime.

@@Sleeperdude Yep, I use purple power on everything. Its less corrosive than bleach. I always use it when pressure washing houses, and cars. I always go back over interior vinyl and leather and dash afterwards with Sprayway Interior Detailer High Gloss. That stuff is amazing.
