Savinelli Dolomiti 114 Rustic 9mm + 1st impression on Sutliff Maple Shadows II

Hi Nathan, great video. I too have been enjoying a bit of this same blend. I managed to jar the majority of it but I treated myself to 2 oz. of it and it is good. Similar to your pipe I opted to smoke this blend on my Savinelli Roma 127. The aroma of maple is pleasant but not overwhelming when lit. The pleasantly light smokiness and a hint of something spicy, grassy and occasionally the cigar leaf smokiness mixes all very well. Somewhere halfway through the bowl the sweet maple disappears and the different tobacco leafs come forward. Although I am enjoying these few bowls, with cellaring time this blend will be a joy to smoke next year. I hope everyone is having a pleasant week, feliz humos! Best, Charlie

Such a cool looking tin. As you say, our tins here are awful, big silly warning, altered names to make them sound less attractive. Although it usually ends up in a mason jar in a drawer to be fair, but still, it would be nice to have what the yanks have over there! Lovely new pipe as well, think I fancy a straight billiard next, but probably the sav 106, with the smaller bowl. Good to watch your videos as usual, thanks!

I agree Tom. Here in the UK they don’t separate cigarettes from pipe tobacco and that is plain ignorance and lack of understanding what pipe smoking is all about. What a shame. I personally love pipe tobacco tin art, the way it was years ago when common sense & tradition was the norm.

exactly that yes, I was chatting with the manager at smokeking when I was there recently just before the budget announcement, and we were having a moan about how us pipe smokers are tarred with the same brush as the cigarette smokers, and it’s not fair! We joked that we needed a second coming of winston Churchill to champion pipes and cigars for us! All the best, looking forward to the next video.

Another beauty from Savinelli Nathan. I’ve a few myself now the latest being the Bings Favourite in smooth finish 6mm a longer pipe but smokes burleys and Virginias perfectly. Happy smokes Martin 😊

Great pipe. Do you know if it will take a standard 9mm filter like a Perlman cardboard filter ??? I see yours has the balsa wood filter installed. Thanks.

I don’t use the filter you mentioned but I use the Vauen 9mm standard filter. Btw right before I smoked the pipe in the video I swapped the balsa filter with the above mentioned filter. Peterson charcoal 9mm also fits perfectly so I assume all 9mm filters would fit this pipe.

@Cigardoo. No simple answer to the first question you ask. It is so personal & very much individual. I know pipe smokers who smoke a bowl twice daily, morning & evenings. On the other hand I know some who only smoke at the weekends. So it is not a question of good or bad it is rather how many bowls of pipe per day / week do you feel satisfied. As for me, It very much depends on my work schedule, sometime I smoke once or twice during the week a bowl in the early morning in the garden or my office or occasionally late evening to unwind but I particularly enjoy my weekend morning smoking sessions
