I'm sitting here watching this and it is so sad 😞 😥 I'm 63 years old and crying about a Donkey that I have never met I guess it shows I have a ❤ but this is a terrible feeling I hope it all works out I'm not very religious but I'm praying for her and the baby stay strong Jami and Lester and of course the whole family this was a real tear jerker

We watch all of these babies in videos several times a day. How can we not get attached to them. They are like our friends we see everyday and we also feel their pain. Thank god you realized there was a problem and acted quickly. Let’s hope Ivan gets what he needs at Paw Paws house and Ivy gets stronger at the farm. I cried so hard when L.E. had Ivan in his arms and hearing papa was going to be keeping him knowing how much Ivy wanted to be a Mom. It broke my heart hearing her cry for her. Consider putting her on a senior feed, making a mash with hot water, adding molasses and vegetable oil. Molasses adds iron and calories and oil is straight calories. It kept our 34 year old toothless mare strong enough and fat enough to survive her last three northern Midwest prairie winters. We fed Madison it twice daily filling out her spine and bum nicely. Our vet was surprised. I am an RN. It’s similar to a super cereal recipe nutritionist recommend for elderly residents not thriving.

You have to do whats best. She will also read your emotions. I dont know if they are the same as horses, but I saved a senior. Id bring her in the barn a few times a day, fed her senior food and supplements, an alfalfa mix hay, and groomed her just for the calming effect. For her pure alfalfa was too much for her system. Took quite a while, but she slowly built back up. Grateful you all are working together to help both of them!!! 💗💗💗

Jami farm life is hard. You have to have a mind set. You would hurt much more if you lost them both. So keep your chin up and give ivy loads of live. Sing to her rub her down. Hands on helps their spirit. When my pony got loose and hit by a car I hardly left the barn. Vet said he was luck it wasn't worse. I had 2 horses to comfort my Arabian and his companion. It all worked out fine Be calm and hum. Remember Music soothes the soul. Love you!

Normally with a female donkeys and mares, especially that age, you would supplement and feed her special feed for pregnant mares. She's had none of that, but the miracle is that she did it and she did it by herself. The fact that she had him to term is in itself a miracle! That is because of the awesome care she now receives, no doubt about it. A lot of things had to be right for her to bring little Ivan into the world, all of which are miracles! Unfortunately, she had to sacrifice some of herself to Ivan so that could happen. I'm a firm believer that animals understand more than we think they do. You speak to your animals and it really shows, so I believe she understands what's going on as much as it sucks. Watching her eat her carrots tells me she is determined to get well again. She should be on a special grain for lactating and pregnant mares if she's not already, alfalfa... and lots of treats! Let her eat whatever her heart desires! She has an amazing will to live and to love even after all of the neglect she suffered in the past that I think she's got one more miracle left in her. She's a special gal and people all over the world just love her, and with good reason. We're pulling for you and Ivan sweetie!

My rainbow babe was born under 4lbs at 36.6wks and spent almost two weeks in NICU, I pumped from day one and dried by 11months. My oldest who is 13, I was only able to nurse for 2.5months, myself being 19 and no support, I quit. It's okay to supplement, both mama and baby's needs need to be met. Thank you for your comment 💞

I must say THANK YOU JAMI for this video. I’m not want to post negative comments but watching the video of LE and Lester taking Ivan to PawPaws literally broke my heart and actually made me sick. I couldn’t understand why they were laughing and smiling like it wasn’t a big deal. But today your video, hearing you describe the pain and fighting not to cry showed the true pain of what is happening. My heart is breaking for Ivy & Ivan. I’ve always felt the hardest part of caring for animals is to not be able to communicate with them about why something is happening. I've never been thru this with myself or an animal. I would think the grieving process can lead to the demise of both mom and son if it goes on too long. As with Mother Meg, Shirley, and Freckles, you bottle feed the babies but the moms were still there watching. I would think that could work with Ivy. Papa could still come by several times a day ( while you are working) to feed Ivan. Of course with every female goat about to give birth you'd need everyone's help, but if Ivy can be with Ivan even though she cant feed him Id think she would have the will to live.

🫂🫂🫂🫂🫂 This is almost as heart breaking as if she actually lost Ivan. I'm so very glad that you have so much support during this devastating crisis. I saw the video at Pawpaw's so I know Ivan will make the adjustment, but I have missed a lot of videos this week. Ivy is such a sweet girl I am grieving with all of you.
