Every city in Canada needs this kind of initiative, it's sad to see what drugs are doing to our cities our country our world. This drug epidemic is world wide now so sad

No. That's where the problem lies. If they continue bringing people food, drugs, mattresses, all the comforts and home health care on the streets, they will never leave the streets of the city center. They will always be there. They have to cut off where they live and relocate them outside the center on some land outside the city with the help of the government. The same report says that it costs the government millions and millions of dollars to have these police officers walking around shaking hands with people. The program will never end.

My childhood friend has been out on/off the streets downtown and addicted for about 10 years or so. We still keep in touch and I hope she can get clean. Luckily she's been living in an apartment with people for a few years now so at least she's off the streets. I'm glad resources and help are growing out there. I hope one day she can get the help she needs.

Police officers are not meant for this purpose. There should be a seperate unit that deals with medical emergencies from drug overdoses. I wish we still saw an effort in prevention. Is there any money put into preventing teens or adults from starting? Let the police find the dealers.

It would seem you missed the overall point and information this news piece conveys. There is a 'Seperate Unit' (which is the point of this video) a dedicated team of EMS heros who are assigned to providing immediate emergency care to the vulnerable population of people who are unhoused and who cope with trauma often via drug use.

Finding the dealers is pointless. By the time the police find dealers, there are already a dozen others. Education and resources to prevent these dealers front obtaining more customers is the best long term approach.

Heartbreaking. Also disturbing that the University of Ottawa campus and student residences are in that area. We need to find a way to keep the students safe, especially when they are returning to their residence or apartment at night.

Before decriminalization, approx. 95% of All users were hidden and 5% of those in need of addictive support were visible. During decriminalization.... 95% of those w/ addictive issues are visible and 5% of those, are hidden. The benefit(s) is/are the overall 'visiblity' of the sheer amount of the critical criteria of humans in dire need of overall supports of stability and health of Self/ Selves.

Why they haven't done this in Vancouver is beyond me. Send help - it's gotten chaotic here with no end in sight. These people need it just as much, if not more. Our streets are getter wilder by the day. People are literally defacating in the streets. They don't even hide doing drugs here.

Did you know that in Vancouver they turn the street lights blue so crackheads can’t see where they’re injecting themselves? Yet here in Canada, we commonly fund places that test drugs for these people to use to ensure their safe, and we also distribute the pipes and needles for them to use as well. But coincidentally, we have almost next to no 24 seven nonprofitable rehab centers. It’s almost like the system is designed to keep us where we are.

This is such a waste of our resources. As a taxpayer i am fed up with the government wasting my money on this situation. Stop. Stop forcing our police force, paramedics, firemen/women to deal with a group of people that are not interested in changing what they are doing. Put the individuals with mental illness back in institutions and let the rest fend for themselves. Tired of my money being thrown at a no win situation. Stop. No one is forcing them to do what they do, it is a CHOICE and ALL of us need to be accountable for the choices we make.
