Blake it warmed my heart to hear you recognize your mom for the work she does at the farm. She really is a hard worker. I have so much respect for her. Actually I have the upmost respect for your entire family!

@@brockn7878 actually I have a P not a B. I was thinking it was Upmost. According to the spell check Upmost is a word. So I guess both words are correct. Thanks for pointing it out though. 🥴 We all need help sometimes.

Hi Blake! I’m a hay farmer! I would highly suggest using straw when possible. Hay tends to hold a lot of moisture and can end up doing the opposite and actually make your animals more cold especially if the hay is on the ground where it’s 100% going to absorb moisture. Straw is absolutely OK for reptiles. Straw actually can grow mold but not as fast as hay. I would definitely keep hay as a nutrient source for some of your animals, but use the straw as protection from the cold ❤

Agree. I am in Canada and we put straw in our quails enclosure for the winter. Straw is a good insulating material

It might not be a bad idea to use some plywood to make a 3-sided room for the deer and the same thing for your cassowaries. Just some simple that can keep them warm since the weather is unpredictable and later on you can make a way better one

Question? Do you raise these deer? Asking because you’re giving advice like you’re a farmer. If not I would think Blake has had enough experience to know what’s right. Plus people seem to forget that animals live OUTSIDE and give birth outside. Plus it’s not like they live in Alaska. The are a hardy breed(even fawns). Plus these fawns are nursing from mom and that makes them so strong after drinking the colostrum. I speak from experience as a vet tech and farmer of common farm animals and exotics. Not meaning any disrespect but I find it irritating that people act like Blake doesn’t know what he’s doing. He’s been at this for a minute. Just saying 👍
