Lauren, once again, you brought the Gold.🧡 This movie is visceral and raw, and I saw that on your face. I saw you affected by the odyssey of these men to bring one man home. I saw it when the medic died, when the German soldier they let go shot Miller and when old James Ryan told Miller he hoped that he earned it in their eyes. And when he said to his wife 'tell me I'm a good man.' You teared up...then I teared up...again. The genuine care you take in what you do is precisely why I keep coming back. And it's why I'll be back for all the ones to come. Always keep smiling. It lights up this corner of the internet like a fireplace on a cold winter night. Have a beautiful night and an even more beautiful day. I'm out. Peace and love.

I agree, this movie was emotional, raw, visceral, I've never seen anything like it😭At the end when Private Ryan turned to his wife and said that, I couldn't hold the tears back any longer. It told me that he lived his life with all of those men in mind, and did his best to make it a good one. Thank you so much for watching Rich and thank you for supporting me and my channel💖

I think the "earn this" by Miller to Ryan was Spielberg's way to say we all need to "earn this". That sacrifice so many made that we have the ability still to live free. Can we ever really earn or repay it? We need to remember and honor their sacrifice and damn well try to do our best.

My father was one of those who landed on Omaha Beach that morning June 6, 1944. He was a member of the Naval Combat Demolition Unit (NCDU). In the movie Lt Miller is told to move before he blows up the obstacle. That was my father's job. About 20 years ago I got to see Omaha Beach with my son. I counted 400 steps from the low water line at which they landed that morning to the first cover from the live fire from the desperate German defenses. NCDU transformed into what we know as the Navy SEALS today. My father's picture is hung in the SEAL museum. Thank you for sharing this movie.

My dad got shot but survived near Caan France. He returned on the 60th anniversary of the liberation of France with other soldiers and received the highest civilian medal of Freedom from the French Government . Like Private .Ryan he sometimes questioned why he made it but many others did not. It’s called survivors guilt. The psychological wounds were always just below the surface and were far worse than the wounds from getting shot in the neck and the limited mobility he had on the left part of his body. Tragic

My grandfather was a sonar officer on the USS Niblack during WWII, they and several other USN Destroyers were escorts for the supply convoys going to Britain across the North Atlantic. My family has the recordings of the radio chatter when one of the escorts was sunk by a German U-boat and the subsequent rescue operation. I hope never to hear screams like that again, and I know why he never talked about it. He went on to build F6F Hellcats at the Grumman Ironworks and then became Fire Chief of his town, very proud of that man. The D-Day scene was so realistic that when Spielberg screened it for veterans, many of them walked out of the theater. He went to ask them if they didn't like it and found them crying in the lobby, the PTSD overwhelming them. Many said the only thing missing from that was the smell of blood and diesel, and that there were a lot more bodies. The beaches of Normandy were stained red for weeks afterwards. And this was just in the European Theater. The majority of the American war efforts were focused on the Pacific Theater against Japan after the attack on Pearl Harbor HI. Good films to watch for that side of the war are Tora! Tora! Tora! and Midway. History channel also has a great series called Battle 360 which follows the service life of the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise CV-6, "The Big E" during the war. The premise of this film was based on the Sullivan Brothers, 5 brothers who served on the USS Juneau together and were all KIA during the Battle of Guadalcanal when their ship was sunk by Japanese torpedoes. After this event the War Dept. instituted a policy that would prevent an entire family unit of serving at once so that this would never happen again.

@@LoveLaurenn There is a less well known companion to Band of Brothers called "The Pacific". As with Band of Brothers, it is taken directly from the first hand accounts of soldiers who were actually there, particularly a book called "With The Old Breed" by Eugene Sledge. "Sledgehammer" was a well known history professor for years after the war and his book is one of the all time classic war memoirs. "The Pacific" is notable for some of its philosophical reflections---just a few odd but profound moments when there are a few minutes of quiet and some of the men voice their thoughts to each other. "The Pacific" also shows a bit more of the aftermath and the backstories of the men before the war. Highly recommended, the more so because WWII in the Pacific is generally not as well known as the war against the Nazis in Europe.

While the beach scene was incredibly well done, it was definitely not accurate to what actually happened. For example, the big MG bunkers in the film didn’t even exist. In reality, the German machine guns at Dog Green were in well hidden positions dug into the bluffs and firing at angles along the beach. The U.S. troops weren’t sure where the fire was coming from exactly. The first wave U.S. troops also landed at low tide and had to cross large stretches of open beach before reaching any cover. They were on the beach for hours too.

I'm sure others will point this out, but this movie hit so hard for WWII Veterans, the realism was so on point, not only where there multiple reports of Veterans walking out of theaters during this scene, there were additional PTSD Hotlines set up specifically because of the surge of suffering this movie caused. I don't believe there was much animosity towards the movie, it's not that they thought it shouldn't have been made, it's that they made it SO WELL. The Veterans never thought a movie could actually take them back to that time.

Saving Private Ryan is incredibly realistic in most every way, with a very few exceptions. One thing to know, pay no mind at all to that man who took off his helmet at 6:04 and then got shot in the head...that next shot would have killed him even if he had kept his helmet on. The helmets of WW2 would almost never stop a bullet, except under very very rare circumstances. The movie is not a true story, and it differs from the actual history of D-Day in many ways...but the basic plot is loosely based on the 4 Niland Brothers, one of whom served with the 101st Airborne Division. However, when 3 Nilands were reported dead, no mission was sent to get the last brother, and it turned out that one brother that had been thought dead had actually only been captured. There really was a Company C of the 2nd Rangers that landed on Omaha Beach, but they were commanded by Captain Ralph Goranson, and they did not land quite where it was shown in the film. Probably the most important historical thing that Spielberg got wrong is that he had the boats that carried the Rangers to the beach being driven by Americans...they were not. On D-Day, the boats that carried the US Rangers to the beach were driven by UK sailors of the Royal Navy. There are many other things in the film that are not accurate to the real history of D-Day, but that one really fails to honor some of the men that fought and died at Omaha Beach, so it is definitely the one most worth noting.✌💯

I was lucky enough to have become friends with a WW2 Veteran who was at the Normandy Invasion on D Day. He had some of the most interesting stories. He was a bit deaf at his age and spoke very loud. Every time we took him to dinner or hung out after church he would tell my son who was 5 when they met, some amazing stories and because he talked so loud everyone in the diner would hear as well. They would come up to him and thank him. It was so cool. He threw the first pitch at the local city Police and Fire Department Softball Game the Scouts did as a fund rasier for Fallen Officers. When the announcer introduced him he gave a brief history of him and everyone in that place was standing. Its awesome to see that kind of support for an old man. We went to his 95th birthday party and they did it old school NAVY style with a 40's kick. It was so fun. But, a few years later, he began to fall down more and more frequently. He broke his wrist and his hip and his daughter (who he lived with) couldnt pick him up sometimes so they put him in an old folks home and we took his dog in. This dog is a brute. We would bring her to him for short visits after church and then COVID hit and we couldnt visit anymore. We didnt even know until a year and a half later that he had moved to a different home but they werent allowing anyone to visit. Anyway we got a call last year from his son telling us to come to the hospital Bob may not make it through the night. We went and he was in pain. His son says he could hear us but I knew better ....he was deaf and didnt have his ear pieces in. So we said out peace and left and sure enough he died the next day at a ripe old 100 years. Amazing man. Not just the two years he was at war but the 70 or so years afterwards. Now his dog is another story....the bitch is a BRUTE and she is sooooo loud when she barks and ugly as sin. When I first saw her at Bobs house I thought she had mange. I wouldnt let my son pet her. Then after starring at her for so long (as people tend to stare at a car wreck) I figured ok thats not mange she is just dog ugly. Found out they picked that dog cause Bob couldnt hear the phone ring or the doorbell or even if is door was open he couldnt hear people shouting his name. He could hear that dog though.....probably still can. lololol Im not joking. When she barks when i get home from work i see double. Instant headache. I love her to death bat damn tone it down. lolol this is getting long. Ill shut it down. thanks for the reaction brought back memories.

Incredible movie. Incredible reaction. Incredible video. Much like Schindler's List I've only seen this movie once because of how heavy it is, but it is so well crafted. The performances, the cinematography, and the dialogue are all great. Also, after seeing how you reacted to this film, I'm looking forward to watching your reaction to Schindler's List. P.S. If this isn't your best reaction/video, it's definitely in the top tier of the LoveLaurenn YT channel

In 1998 I took a group of Russians visiting the USA on an official trip to see "Saving Private Ryan" at a (then) very-modern cinema. They were from Volgograd, which was called Stalingrad until 1961. They had all their lives been told the USSR fought WW2 alone and the Americans, British, etc. had it easy because of Soviet sacrifices. For example, when I visited Volgograd earlier in 1998 the May Day WW2 victory day happened (May 9th). Russian TV showed WW2 films non-stop and the fighting scenes between Germans & Soviets were similar in context to "SPR" though not as cinematically good. The few times the films showed allied military at all (Americans, British, etc.) they portrayed happy troops riding around the countryside in trucks (no fighting). They were absolutely shocked to see the first 30 minutes of "SPR" and also the other fighting scenes. When the film was over they walked out of the cinema in silence like everyone else. Afterward, they asked about other invasions during WW2. I accurately informed them that there were about a dozen major invasions in Europe, which included the Dieppe raid in 1942 - which failed. There were another 41 or so invasions in the Pacific. They had never been told anything about the allied efforts in WW2 and it was all new to them.

Hey Laurenn What a wonderful reaction to such an emotional journey as Saving Private Ryan. I am a crier and that is just the way I roll. You were just as emotionally invested with this movie. Just because the tears don't come out as a flood doesn't mean that you are any less emotional than anyone else. Your face was very expressive, and you are quite intellectual as well.

Just as Private Ryan understood the need to earn what all those who died did for him, so, too, do we ALL need to earn what so many have done for us. The blessings we enjoy came at such a heavy price. Previous generations have sacrificed much to create the umbrella of freedom we find ourselves under. NEVER FORGET!

The final battle in this film was shot in our town Welwyn/Hatfield, the film makers invited the local district councillors and their partners to a privileged showing of the uncut film. In the audience were veterans that were on the beach for real. At the end of the film this lovely old man turned to me and said that the beach scene was as it really was, he was in tears. The Dreamworks representative auctioned the helmet that Tom Hanks wore in the film £600 pounds was raised. The film was 30 minutes longer than the standard release version. A truly fantastic rendition of war with no cotton wool covering. Thank you for the reaction

I was blessed to meet three WWII vets in my life, two of them started up businesses (where I worked at) when they came back and those businesses had grown and were being run by their sons/grandsons- all three that I met openly talked about the war and their role in it when asked. They were all a different breed of men, respectful, honorable, morale, hardworking, honest.... a true example to those of us who met them. hard times make a strong man, a strong man makes good times, good times make weak men, weak men make hard times.... I think we are in the latter part of that phrase

Everything - the acting, the cinematography, the dialog, was incredible. But the whole point of the movie was that final scene at the cemetery. I am the father of one who has fought in our recent wars. He was wounded in 2007 and almost died. He lost close friends. Today he lives well. He is "earning it." That final scene moves me to tears every time I see it, no matter how many times.

The landing in the movie was perhaps the worst sector of the entire invasion with the highest losses and came closest to failing. One of the main sources for the events was the book "Eyewitness on Omaha Beach" by Dr. Harold Baumgarten. He was one of the men who landed on the beach and was quickly wounded. The author was told by Spielberg himself that his accounts helped shape the landing scene.
@Caseytify
@Caseytify Жыл бұрын
Omaha beach suffered great casualties through several strokes of bad luck, including wind & waves causing them to land on the wrong beach, and Intel hadn't noticed that a veteran division had been transferred to that sector a week before. The Americans landed on two beaches, Omaha and Utah. The Brits landed on Gold, Juno, and Sword. The other beaches weren't nearly as bad as Omaha. The natives of Normandy still call that beach Omaha today. They haven't forgotten.

The first Ryan is played by actor Nathan Fillion. You might have seen him in the tv series Firefly. He and his crew are smugglers while transporting passengers in a space ship. It's funny and serious at the same time. The show only lasted one season due to scheduling as fans couldn't figure when the show would be broadcast. It did have a movie afterwards to satisfy the fans.

1. Many WWII vets left the theaters because the D-Day battle scenes were so realistic. 2. The German Captain Miller was talked into letting go is the same one that killed him. Upham finally put him down. 3. The story Ryan tells Miller about the last time he saw his brothers was made up by Matt Damon. He was told to say something interesting, so he did, and it was kept in the movie. 4. There really was a USS Sullivans(DD- 68) dedicated to the brothers lost on one ship. That's why all brother soldiers/sailors from one family can't be assigned to the same command. 5. I did 24 years in the US Navy. My favorite character is Private Jackson/sniper and my second favorite is Sargent Horvath. 6. Want to cry? Tom Hanks in Stephen King's "The Green Mile" You WILL cry.

Certain parts of the movie really gets to me like when the ramp drops and seeing the soldiers get gunned down but what really hurts is hearing the young soldier cry/scream mama that can get you really emotional no matter how tough you are that's why you thank a veteran when you see one they deserve it more than you know

My grandfather was amongst the British troops during the D-Day landings. As they were moving up the beach, his pal got wounded, so my grandfather went back to carry him to cover. Sadly when he reached relative safety, he discovered his friend had been shot & killed….saving my grandfathers life. The following year in 1945, my grandfather returned to mainland Europe & was involved in the liberation of the Bergen - Belsen Concentration Camp. He never full spoke about what he witnessed when they arrived at the camp; the horrors that greeted the Allied troops was beyond comprehension. Later in his life, he did speak a little about what he saw; but the one overwhelming memory that stuck with him was the smell of the place. The Nazis, knowing they were at this point defeated, abandoned the camp & the prisoners. Many were either dead or dying due to starvation & diseases brought on by poor sanitation. There was also thousands of bodies decomposing, either where they had fallen, or in open graves. Although he didn’t fight during WWII, Harry Patch; who was the last survivor of the trenches in WWI & whom became an outspoken critic of war had this to say. “War is organised murder & nothing else. Politicians who took us to war should have been given the guns and told to settle their differences themselves, instead of organising nothing better than legalised mass murder. Irrespective of the uniforms we wore, we were all victims”.

This movie and Fury both confront something that was a very real issue in large-scale modern wars like these, and particularly WWII (because of how mobile and fluid it was) which is taking captives. Being in the middle of some sort of operation or extended mission, coming into contact with and defeating an enemy unit, and then having enemy survivors puts you in a terrible position. You can't realistically expect to be able to divert yourself and your new prisoners many hours or possibly days back to friendly camp to process them without not only putting yourself and your men at risk but also delaying or potentially failing your original mission- and you can't just kill unarmed enemy combatants without not only technically committing a war crime but almost certainly feeling a certain amount of dehumanization for what could be argued by some to be murder. It's an impossible weight to bear, but that's the nature of war and why it leaves behind the people it does. Even the most justified, defensive war devours the soul of everyone involved- the endless comparisons of war to Hell are entirely apt.
