Wow 41yrs! I also have a very similar Haworthia which I got in 2010, the oldest plant in my collection actually (sounds like nothing compared to your 41yrs! 😃🤩). My original mother plant died long ago but her pups live on, that's interesting how you described the roots dying back and this is just how the plant grows. I've had to refresh mine several times over the years. Now I need to continue keeping mine alive so I still have it as long as you've had yours! Thank you for the informative video, may your Haworthia live another 41 years! 😃 Amy from Melbourne 😊

They seem to rot over winter when they don't get watered and lose their roots. Once you water in the spring they just rot. This is why its important to water some plants during the "dormant" season.

Thanks for a very informative update Lyn. We have a random Haworthia that has been outside, totally ignored for 3 years but has grown huge in its pot and is looking very tired. I've been putting off tidying up and repotting it for at least a year, but perhaps this might inspire me to finally get round to it. It's in an extremely sunny spot and almost certainly pure potting compost, but still has managed to send up flower stems each year. We've had masses of rain the last couple of days so I'll need to let it dry out before I disturb it. Wishing you and Hans lots of plant power from warm and wet Northern Spain 🙂🌵💚

I moved into a house in Andalucía with lots of neglected succulents, this being one. Your video is timely. I didn’t know to trim the roots. Will do that! I’m looking for a video about saving a neglected cactus “Jumping Cholla.” The central stalk looks dead and the arms are various states of health or distress. I gave it some water, but not sure what to do next. Do you have a video? Thanks.
@desertplantsofavalon4 ай бұрын
So happy to hear that this video was perfect timing for you, the good news is with your Jumping cholla is you can prune off the healthy arms and then let the cuttings callus ( dry at the ends ) for a couple of weeks before you pot them up as cuttings, I don't have a video about doing this but they are easy to propagate from stem and arm branch propagation, its very important that your hands do not get in contact with handling them, use plastic plant pots turned upside down over your hands or sheets of newspaper or thin cardboard wrapped around your hands to handle them when pruning the cuttings as the spines and their glochids can cause a lot of pain if they get in the skin, and use tweezers to handle the cuttings, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a super Sunday XXXX
