I've always wanted to visit this place.. I've heard so many things about the history on Salton Sea.. and the lakes before it became to what it is today.. It's such a tragedy but something else.

Salton Sea vs. Lake Victoria: A Size Comparison Lake Victoria is significantly larger than the Salton Sea in both surface area and depth. Surface Area: Lake Victoria: 59,947 square kilometers (23,146 square miles) Salton Sea: 924 square kilometers (357 square miles) Lake Victoria is approximately 65 times larger than the Salton Sea in terms of surface area. Depth: Lake Victoria: Maximum depth of 80-81 meters (262-266 feet) Salton Sea: Maximum depth of 13 meters (43 feet) Lake Victoria is significantly deeper than the Salton Sea, with a maximum depth approximately six times greater. In summary, Lake Victoria is a much larger and deeper body of water compared to the Salton Sea. While the Salton Sea is the largest lake in California, it pales in comparison to the vastness of Lake Victoria, one of the Great Lakes of Africa.

My prediction: New battery technology will not need the minerals this area has to offer so no efforts to mine it will occur. The lake will dry up and there will be air quality alerts, and no other expensive efforts will take place.

The lithium resides in the geothermal brine. Making the Mistake Lake go away has absolutely no effect on any projects. Giant new finds in Nevada and elsewhere have made any development in over-regulated California non-existant.

Do like the ancient Aztecs did with their large lake Texcoco and turn Tulare Lake and the Salton Sea back into a new fresh water lake. Start with pumping several small pools of water to separate the salt and other toxicants from the fresh water and lake based floating islands filled with green mangrove trees and plants, corn, tomatoes, squash and vegetables. Additionally build a series of dikes, lakes, river canals and dams to capture the rainwater, use floating mangrove trees and plants to filter and separate out the toxic salts and oils. Eventually over time and with help from the floating island mangroves trees, migrating birds and crop islands you can pull out the toxics and salts and what remains is fresh water and also grow tilapias and Salamanders. If the Aztecs can do this almost 1000 years ago, we can also do it again, minus all the Aztec human sacrifices.

Before the Salton Sea was created by mishap, there was no ecological importance to the area. It was a dry salt sink. Quit messing with it and let is go back to the way nature intended. Besides, it would be an irresponsible waste of good water.
