Well done! Writing ‘TPS’ in the seeds at the end was an inspired touch.

Wow, that is a crazy amount of seeds! Very nice to see how you handle that much and also where some of them are going. I did laugh a bit at you scrapping away when you have 6 million of them:))

Thank You very much for the step by step on how to get the seeds. And I have 2 of those old grinders, that maybe should I be so lucky to get a big batch of potato berries, can be put to good use.!

Such an impressive amount of seed :) that's great progress on breeding for fertility in the plants. I should start to put more focus on better fertility in my breeding. I didn't get many berries this year. Did you count all batches you processed this year? Or was it too much to bother with counting. I really like the idea of using a meat grinder vs. a blender. My blender is sharp enough to shred tomato or tomatillo seed. Great for making smooth sauce, but no good for cleaning seed. My old meat grinders always squirt out liquid at the handle. So annoying, especially when I send half a moose through it. Some types allow putting teflon tape or a rubber washer (from old fashioned canning bottles) there, but of course my favourite one is doomed to leak forever. Ah well, meat grinding day is also broth making day for me.

very useful info thanks.......when you plant do you just use 1 little seed per pot as you would a seed potato ? do they grow into the same full size tubers ? being tiny seeds is the growing time longer ? thanks

Love your videos man! Have you thought about breeding peppers? I've been thinking about crossing some native Mexican varieties to bring out the smoky and chocolatey flavors in them, as well as for drying.

I do love peppers, have not really done any deliberate breeding on them. Right now I've just been testing/trialing existing varieties.

I use the palm of my hand to dry the seeds out. It takes a few goes but they dry just fine for me. I do this with Raspberry and Blackberry seeds too. I have never tried potato seeds before so will collect some this year after I harvest.

Thank You for the great video and information. How would you store them? How long can Yoy store them? Again Thank You..

When do you know when the potato seed is mature....ripe...ready to germinate...?

I fermented my potato seeds & air dried them.......I have some growing so it worked....

can you put them in and mold them like tomato seeds? Seems like 4 or 5 days like that would be "safer" than making the solution you used.

We used our meat grinder for running horseradish for many years. We were using an electric processor until the nubs holding the blades on melted off. It helps to have a fan blowing the fumes away.

Well, Tim, I don't know if I agree with you about the broad bowl being the easiest way to clean off the remaining bits of pulp and gelatinous goo in the water. I've always found a tall narrow jar to be my preference, maybe I'm just a spaz at gold panning... I bought at the dollar store a straight-sided clear glass vase that's about 4 inch in diameter and about 14 in tall but of course I didn't get enough potato seed this year to make that worth the effort...

Whatever works. I find that in tall containers the seeds all slip forward too much, but it probably depends on the container, and with these TPS, it depends a bit on the variety of the mother plant, some of them are super slimy and others not so much, the ones here in the video weren't very slimy at all. Sometimes when I drop the seeds into the fine mesh collander there is a couple inches of clear slime that stays in there with them.

Good video, I was wondering what you where going to do with that many seed, do you get any feedback on any of the seed you donate by other growers ?
@oxbowfarm58036 жыл бұрын
Not yet, but it takes a few years of TPS growing before you work out the kinks and really get into it. At least that was true for me.
