It probably was just parked in a flooded area, or rear ended in a small stream. There is mould on the steering wheel. In my experience the insurance will dump any vehicle that was partial under water because off the electrical gremlins in the future, Take your win with this one. Sounds awesome!

The early versions of this C63 are having problems with head bolts. The bolts holding head to block may get looser if they are from factory. Facelift or later versions are okay with this.
@metz_862 жыл бұрын
That’s a pre facelift model You can tell from the headlights and pop out screen. Later models have a built in screen and different headlight design. Looks like it also has a resonator delete and maybe a secondary cat delete. The M156 engine is known to tap when the oil is low/cold as it doesn’t reach the top of the cams fully Over time the lobes wear down and creates a tapping sound, new cams are costly. Also fuel injectors get stuck open, ‘flooding’ the engine with fuel and causing a hydro lock Maybe that’s what they mean by flooding???

After a cold start I was suspecting rod bearings located at the bottom end. Very common in these engines. After a while the sound settled out. Please check the gearbox for issues and it might be just a flooded car. British standards to qualify the car to be written off are so strange for me.
@CON1FER2 жыл бұрын
Tapping for split second on start up is just cam adjusters being empty of oil after standing. Sometimes they drain down sometimes they don’t depending on car. Very common on AMG 63 engines
@MattyEngland2 жыл бұрын
Insurance company will usually write off any 'flooded' car out of fear of electrical gremlins. In some cases the water may not even have been deep enough to get inside, but with an older vehicle it isn't worth the cost of getting an assessor to examine it, they just write it off and send to a Salvage auction.
@szocspyotr65342 жыл бұрын
that initial knocking is due to the chain slapping on the retainer in lack of oil pressure, many of these engines have them. There are many videos like that on youtube where you could compare.
@HaydenAutomotive972 жыл бұрын
That initial rattle first time is the cam adjusters, basically overtime the locking pin backing plates wear/oval out which causes the adjuster to move about from that freeplay in the plate, which until oil pressure builds it pushes the pin out. It’s a pretty common thing on the w204 c63 well any Mercedes’ with the m156, there are rebuild kits on the market which just supply new pins and plates but that rattle will generally only be on cold when the oil pressure has dropped.

The metal noise on the start up is the hydraulic tensioner momentarily adjusting until Oil pressure built up that's why it was then no longer audible once it was iddlimg.

It's a snapped bolt there. Try to see what the service manual says. If the head of the bolt is in the engine might cause problems... Check the camshaft from the other side to see if it's the same.

I would definitely let the engine warm up and see if you get the misfire back. It’s the early engine and they suffer with head bolts failure, when the engine warms up the head lift off the block and it causes a misfire. I had this happen to my 2009 C63, it ran great until it warmed up and then it would misfired. Im sure it not that maybe it’s just categorised wrong👍🏻

A guess: Driver goes though a shallow flood, car gets water in engine electrics and engine stops. Car gets recovered to main dealers who have several other 'flood damaged cars' - after the 2007 floods a local BMW dealer had "about 20" flood cars awaiting assessment so dealers don't get them in ones. In this case maybe the dealership did not do a very thorough assessment or thought this one had been checked when it had notand confirmed 'flood damage' to the insurer who took it a face value - maybe the pandemic meant changes to inspection policy. So car is shipped off to Copart and in the meantime the engine has dried out. Enter Saving Salvage who takes a chance and for once gets a lucky bargain - he deserves a break after a few dodgy ones!

I bought a flood damaged focus off Copart. It started fine like this after putting a new battery on it. Went for a drive and it died. Just needed an alternator. Lovely but that one.
@stevenmoran40602 жыл бұрын
Possibly it was in a car park that got flooded like the one in York or Iron Bridge a few months ago but it never got water higher than the wheels. When removed from said location nobody attempted to start it as several other cars were buggered in the same location and all got recovered by the recovery agents probably called in to clear al the cars by police or council. Then, as it was classed as recovered from a flood area nobody, insurance agent included, ever tried to start it probably because by then the battery was flat. The assumption has been made water damaged the electrical system and it was an easy write off for the insurance company as they probably had a good few cars from that location. You being the first person to attempt a start discovered it runs. Front under tray and bumper could easily have been broken in the recovery process as the assumption was it was buggered anyway. You could do with lifting the carpet to see if any water came is there but I doubt it.

possible stuck timing chain tensioner ?? could it be, sometimes they get a bit of dirt in then it can flush out, or the tensioner loses oil pressure and returns before being pressurised again , especially if the oil has been drained from the pump, worth thinking about, if it seems ok get ready to put fresh oil in, or filter the old oil again first look to see if there is anything in the filter.
