Now you have had the inlet on and off again it would be worth sticking a camera down the ports incase anything has found its way in.

The various ways in which you and others approach rebuilding salvaged cars is incredible. I enjoy the range, but your understated and thoroughly painstaking approach is brilliant. In particular this engine rebuild from scratch is quite awe inspiring. It’s such a beast and you have taken us from nuts and bolts and bits of metal to a fully built (almost) engine. Fabulous.

Dean, agree with you 100%. Better to be safe than sorry with metal pieces in the inlet manifold. Really appreciate how much detail you've gone into with this engine rebuild & admire your skills in sorting out that crazy wiring loom......not a job for the faint hearted! I was going to ask about a new clutch, but at £2,000 a pop, better to use the old one, especially if hasn't got much wear.👍👍

Massive appreciation for the in depth detail. I've never even owned a car (I just play Gran Turismo and commute on a bike/mtb for fun) but love them. Tip for pushing a car if you struggle - push on the top of a tyre. You can get twice the leverage (eg for every 2 metres you push the tyre the car moves 1m forward). Riskier is to pull upwards on the spokes. You don't want to get your fingers trapped between the calliper but it's how I get my R8 rolling on a slight incline as I can generate much more lifting vs pushing force. Plenty of space on the rears to get a safe purchase. Wouldn't try it on the fronts or any wheel with tight clearance to a calliper.

Need to be blocking off the egr ports at their closest point to the exhaust and getting the car remapped mapping the egr out. thats where the metal has come from. would have removed that swirl flaps too and again have the map dome to suit. Possibly not too late to do all this?
@Sixthpanic Жыл бұрын
This happened to me on a 2.0t very small bits of metal clogged up the valve and would not seat and caused a misfire, didn't damage the valves or head. Just wouldn't allow the valve to close on 1 cylinder. So make sure you clean that out as pristine as possible.

Those inlet manifolds were oily dirty anyway, you should’ve cleaned it all before refitting. I know you’re keen to get the engine back in the car, Dean, but you’re rushing it too much. Take your time and get things right first time around. Quicker than having to pull the engine out again.

If you're going to be pressure washing the inlet manifold anyway, I think I'd be throwing a shed load of something caustic/detergent into the inlet manifold tubes to clean out the carbon deposits and anything else that may be lurking around those flaps ....but then I always was a bit on the cautious side around engines

I’d say you missed the clutch alignment tool step when installing the clutch. That would of aligned the splines / centralised the clutch. Also not sure I trust your eyeballing of the intake flap screws. How do you know they are good. Just because they don’t look loose?

Had to replace a v6 engine on a kv6 mg zt which had chucked a rod while the guy was on his way to Blackpool, fitted the warranty engine, it ran for 2 minutes made a strange noise and cut out.
