Very good review, thank you. One thing; It‘s a military backpack. No soldier would put his canteen in the side pockets. I use a Nalgene pouch from 5.11 (Helikon Tex has nice ones too) on my hipbelt. It’s much easier to grab the bottle to.

How was the backpack in rainy and snowy weather? Did water get in?
@ForestJumpOutdoors3 ай бұрын
In snow no water got in, and neither in light rain. In heavy rain I used to use a rain cover, didn't tried it in long heavy rain yet
@Messoris4 ай бұрын
Those side pouches are not meant for water bottles. They’re gear pockets imho. An axe fits perfectly in there, or ice axes, trekking poles etc. since you can use the side compression straps to fastening. Good video. I love my savotta m.

It looks like a great ruck, from a military standpoint, the only con if you will for civilian use is the outer side pouches for water, more and more people are switching to filtering water to save weight, and water bladders are difficult to fill and clean.

True, I also miss that, but otherwise I like it

The side bottom pouches are made FDF canteen(1L) in mind, wich it holds perfectly.
@ForestJumpOutdoors7 ай бұрын
True, for that one it can be good
@jphakola5 ай бұрын
The water pouches are probably designed for the green Finnish armed forces 1 liter canteen Bottle that fits quite well. And leaves room on top of it for side pouches.
@ForestJumpOutdoors5 ай бұрын
I used to use it for an axe sometimes, it's also good for that
@gustamagla64176 ай бұрын
In military you don't use side pouches for water bottle, it's designed to hold rifle end. But I used it for water also because you can use strap to secure it. This bag is amazing with all possibilities and set ups. This is the best bushcraft/military 30l backpack on market. Maybe expensive but it's for life.
@ForestJumpOutdoors6 ай бұрын
I'm using it for holding my axe, it is good for that purpose. Thanks for watching 👍

Having served in FDF, you would never carry your rifle that way. You carry it always on your chest, ready to use it instantly. The side pouch is designed for FDF 1L canteen, fits in it perfectly. They have photo of said canteen in the side pocket on Savotta website.
@gustamagla64174 ай бұрын
@@fnbtt thanks, i thought border patrol use it for extra stuff, and weapons. Did you use it for water only or also other stuff?

Savotta gear tends to be buy once, cry once. They're costly so you'll cry when parting with the money, but they'll last you a lifetime, your lifetime. I'm still using my 85 liter from 1998, nothing nonviolently broken, mouses ate one hole through the flap to muesli when I left it laying during rest day on two week hike but it was easy repair thanks to the sturdy fabric around. I've had to change couple cordura straps twice due to the metal frame eating them due to my shoulder width and me being prone to flipping it on from front over the head but considering that's twice in quarter century it's really nothing. If one divides the cost per hike since then for it, it's laughable how cheap it is, or how cheap it keeps still going. But to be honest, it's not lightweight, but that's the real cost for durability. I'll hope you'll have fun decades ahead with yours and remember if you ever choose to stop using it, find a good young home for it so someone else will keep using and enjoying it.

M is based on the Finnish Border patrol sack. Those ARE NOT water bottle pouches. They are for the buttstock of a firearm. IF you carry an axe: They are good for proper and safe carry, head down. I bring a rather heavy Bushcraft Soain 3x3m tarp. I roll it ip like the old military horseshoe carry with the ends secured in the pockets, side straps and a central tie or strap on top. Chrisk

I didn't mention it in the video, but that is exactly what I use it for: carrying my axe. Thanks for watching 👍
@fnbtt4 ай бұрын
They actually are water bottle pouches for FDF 1L canteen. Also in FDF you ALWAYS carry your rifle on your chest. Stuffing your rifle end in the side pocket would get you instantly ridiculed by your CO.
