I've had the privilege and good fortune to see SB in concert dozens of times, since 1972, in many places, in several countries. So many great musicians and vocalists have been part of Kim's creations. Here it is a half century later and i'm hearing the band in Canajoharie, NY tonight (august 2021). I never try to guess what songs i will hear from the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, 00's, 10's, or current album. Savoy Brown's blues have "kept me holding on."

Chris Youlden, the singer they had two guys previous, said the whole British Blues revival thing turned out to be such a shame. Maybe if SB had gotten their due as much back home as in the states, things might've been different. Singers leave for different reasons, though. I think Dave Walker here was their best known and even he left after three good albums. Funny you mentioned Mac since that's just where he went to record an album right after this.

I used to listen to Savoy Brown when I was a junior in High School, 1973. Having a brother 7 yrs. older made Me way above any top 40 shit all My friends were hooked on. They kept it going until all of the members dropped lead guitar/vocals, And formed Foghat taking on one more member. I guess that is why early Foghat was so good, They were Savoy Brown! Still one of My favorites, Timeless blues. Thank You very much for putting this up.

I pretty much stayed with Savoy Brown even though you never had any idea who the personnel was going to be with the next album. How lucky was Simmonds to have had Lonesome Dave and Chris Youlden as his lead singer(s) on separate albums. Both were a perfect match for where Kim was musically at each incarnation. Anyone who was 'In' on Savoy Brown always loved to turn new people on to them. They usually said something like " Dude these guys are great- where the hell did they come from.Lions Share was one of their best . Thanks a ton for the memories!

Luv 'em all, with Raw Sienna being my fave. Saw Simmons and Savoy Brown at the Charlesgate in Boston in the early 1990s. It was a hotel lounge, and the band was a bit disappointing, but Simmons played well. I fully understand the need to earn a living, as some great players, despite their notoriety, never get past it. It was not held in a great venue, and frankly, not everything; not every band works, and you cant hide anything when playing live. Simmons is an all-time great, as is Savoy Brown!

I always liked this lineup of SB. Lonesome Dave had that gravely growl of a voice that was perfect for this blues band. Always one of my favorite bands. Seen them in 72 in Salt Lake City with Atomic Rooster , Long John Baldry and Humble Pie. Wow.
@eloquentprofaniti
@eloquentprofaniti 9 жыл бұрын
Do you remember what Atomic Rooster sounded like, they are another band I think are great. Vincent Crane the founder of Atomic Rooster, was also in the band, The crazy world of Arthur Brown. He started the band, (after quitting Arthur Brown), with Carl Palmer (of Emerson, Lake and Palmer fame), their first headlining gig was in London, and the opening band was Deep Purple. I just found this out recently, I always thought Vincent Crane was a bit under rated as a keyboardist and believed that Deep Purple had "borrowed" some of his licks. He always seemed to me to be a musician that other musicians would like. By the way I like all of those bands (Long John Baldry, Savoy Brown, Atomic Rooster and Humble Pie) my favorite would have to be Savoy Brown. ps... if you get a chance listen to the song "Fire" by the Crazy World of Arthur Brown, it is a classic for sure, especially if you see the music video with it. Arthur Brown was one of the first to paint his face and was followed by one more famous, (alice cooper).

Saw the boys in Central Park Wollman skating rink circa when this album came out. They were great. Met Kim years later through a friend. He was very personable.

This album started it all for me, have seen over 30 times, from that rock band with the singer from Boston, through about 2013 before I moved to Australia for 6 years ago, that includes the break room at intermission at the El Macambo in Toronto with Kim, DC, and Richie lol, good times for sure

Used to see Kim an Co. all the time in early to mid 80s , he would play several times a year in a place called Alex Cooleys Electric Ballroom . Saw them pretty much everytime they played there , really superchaged hard rock , a bottle o jack a steady flow of heinekin an he was off to the races raw screamin wailing flaming top fuel really hard hitting slide guitar too , an played a red sg plugged straight into a jcm800 for the 3or4 yrs i saw him there . I took a lot of good 35mm pictures of him during that time , but my woman took off an took the pictures w her . I really miss those pictures was a special time for me , Simmonds 1 o my all time fav guitar slingers

'74. My big sisters boyfriend, guitarist in band, said "buy this" after spotting it in the LP section of a Zayres department store (Orlando). This CD is sitting in my six disk (yes) cd changer in my car, at this writing.

Saw them 1970-71 summer at the Wollman Skating Ring in Central Park, the place that Donald Trump fixed for city of New York Was just around time this great album was released. They were awesome beyond belief and stood out amongst the other great shows I saw at the Wollman including Led Zeppelin, Ten Years After, Beach Boys, Frank Zappa and Blue Oyster Cult. If my memory serves me correctly price of shows was about $10.00 a ticket or perhaps less. Memorable and not to be forgotten. I actually have a bootleg for that show I got from my buddy Matt who went with me. Just sick to think we are talking 46 years ago. Wow.

Ya, I hear ya, and this was from a show over 10 years ago, Kims audience is getting older, and at a bar where there were about 40-50 people, there were old guys with caines, and I did catch Kim laughing ay what I was observing at the time. Funny moments at Bar concerts

@@quaifong Well John, yes the audience is definitely Medicare-centric although i have avoided a cane up to now (LOL). My buddy was doing radio promo for Kim about 2 years back and I saw and met him at the Iridium in NYC. Maybe more interesting I saw Kim at a World Trade Center show only about ten days before 9/11. His band did the last show before the catastrophe. When I told him this he seemed quite surprised. He signed my brochure from that very show.
