Bootstrap was a part of the crew who stole the treasure, he didn't feel right about the mutiny and believed that they deserved to be cursed including himself. Since he was cursed the same as the crew they needed both the coin and his blood or the closest thing his son's blood. I could go into more detail Aria but I would definitely risk revealing things that you will find out in the next movies and I couldn't do that to you. What I do find amazing is that this whole franchise was based on a theme park ride from Disneyland. I know you will enjoy the next couple of installments and can't wait to see your reaction 😁💚

We can also add the parts they mentioned in this movie without spoiling anything: the reason they couldn't get his blood was that they tied him to a cannon and "sent him to Davey Jones' Locker" aka the bottom of the sea. So, even if he was immortal, locating him - to get his blood - would be extremely difficult. As you said, getting "his" blood from his offspring was more convenient.

Yes, they needed the blood of everyone who stole from the treasure. Bootstrap was just the last one missing. (Until Jack stole a coin, then two where needed again)

All the scattered pieces of the Aztec gold must be restored and the blood repaid." - Hector Barbossa There is a blood debt, but no need for blood on every coin and specific from who took that coin.

The "Jack Sparrow" tattoo on his arm in the movie is a fake, but he got a real one after finishing the film in honor of his son Jack. Happy Monkey Fact: Jack (the monkey) is seen smiling when Barbossa thanks him specifically after he returns the Aztec coin to him, after Jack Sparrow chases him. In the special features on the DVD, it is revealed that the monkey did this purely by chance and it was not planned out in any way. Left To Right Fact: According to the DVD commentaries, Geoffrey Rush has a theory that people watch the screen from left to right, just like when they read a book. Therefore, he tried to be in the left side of the screen as often as possible. He was particularly intent on doing this in the scenes with the monkey and Keira Knightley, because he didn't think anyone would look at him otherwise.

Ted Elliott & Terry Rossio were hired to write the last draft in one month. It was the final chance to convince the studio to greenlight the project. Only Jack, Elisabeth and Will were kept from the previous versions. The new storyline relied on two essential concepts: The pirates returning a treasure instead of stealing it and the addition of fantasy elements based on old sea legends. They were able to work quickly on it because, unbeknownst to the producers and the studio, they actually pitched a POTC project to Disney back in the late 80s! But Disney refused, arguing that a movie based on an attraction would never work. Elliott & Rossio also have a writing credit on Shrek by the way.

Many on set were expecting Johnny Depp to portray Jack Sparrow as a badass, and were surprised at Johnny Depp's characterization, which was basically a mimicry of Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones. Many thought he was too effeminate, and I think the director even asked him if he was trying to portray Jack as a stereotype of a gay 'queen.' It worked out in the end, as we got a legendary character with some extra levity added purely by Depp's acting.

4:35 That small boat may have even be a bigger effect with knowing just that bit more about Jack being an iconic pirate ^^ The introduction is sheer brilliance imo. It shows the subverting of expectations, the respect for the dead a certain honor and the landing shows the creativity and humor. All wrapped up in a small introduction. (And the pirate/untrustworthy part right after by stealing the bag of coins)

The POTC trilogy is my favourite. Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush and Bill Nighy gave some of their best performance. It's unfortunate that we won't get to see Captain Jack Sparrow in future films. Hopefully Disney change their mind.

Aria, since you like period naval type movies (sailing warships blasting away at each other on the high seas), you would really enjoy "Master and Commander" with Russell Crowe. Fantastic drama and excitement. Too bad it didn't get a sequel like it was supposed to. Don't worry, though, the story feels like it has a kind of conclusion.

Aria, there is an after credits scene (All these movies do. This sort of explains something for the next movie, just a small thing. But extra scene! So watch it ;D) As you probably have read by now, they needed the blood of everyone who stole one of these coins. Bootstrap wasn't special in that sense, it was just the last blood missing (and one coin)

Boot Strap Bill helped steal the treasure. The crew killed Boot Strap Bill before the curse took its' toll. Because, the crew of the Black Pearl put Boot Strap Bill at the bottom of the ocean, a direct descendant is the crew's best hope to remove the curse.

no, it's not. If anyone in possession of a piece of the treasure was cursed, then presumably hundreds or thousands of people would be cursed - everyone the crew handed gold to when they spent it originally. Will would also be cursed for having it before Elizabeth. Only those who directly removed the gold from the chest received the curse.
