BRILLIANT ! Congratulations ! Hanging baskets, look great, full of colour and great price ! Don't stress too much about the plants that aren't quick sellers, because they help to keep the place look fuller and at some point someone's going to come in and grab the lot of them. If you can find a pile of cheap punits, grab them because with a handful of vegetable seeds you can fill them up quickly. Only a few weeks from seed to sale. That might even be a good job for the kids. Just don't do any root vegetables in them, like carrots. You've got good quality plants, at great prices. I have no doubt you're going to have repeat customers forever ! I so wish I could spend a day with you guys but it would be a trip and a half from Melbourne, Australia ! I'm sooo happy for you guys ! Take care

Enjoy the slow days because when it gets very busy and crowded there is no sit time. Great job savvy team. There is still lots to learn. Even when you think you know it all there is always a curve ball. Dont forget the landscapers. Variety will make customers coming. Glad to hear you found a wholesaler for those plants. Anyone ask about bagged compost dirt stone or sand? Just another suggestion. Plant 1 of allthe new plants in a garden area to see their growing conditions and season. Hope these ideas help. Another idea a reduced sale section of not ideal plants. Something is better then nothing. Cost of container and soil and a little bit extra.

I'm sure you've already considered this but just in case.... Sometimes it's more cost effective to have your wholesale plants delivered to you instead of the combined cost of your time and your gas to go pick them up. That is if your order meets their minimum order for delivery. But it's also really good to make those face to face connections so they can get to know you. Thank you and your family for sharing your journey with us.

Yes. Here’s the issue I’m running into - I haven’t found the nursery yet who does that with the quality of plants I’m looking for. MANY nurseries have “availability lists” that are somewhat deceptive. Example, I want 100 plants of x. Nursery list says available. I go get them, and find they are recently potted plugs that are months away from being ready to retail. So, I want to SEE what I’m buying until I know of a nursery that has READY to go trade gallon perennials

Casey is right Craig, it's so hard to shift prices up if you are used to a certain price point but think of it like this. You have spent fuel (and time) to go and buy plants wholesale You then spent time potting, rooting, dividing, propogating and growing on. Some of those plants take up space "real estate" on your nursery for a year before they get sold. That takes time to water, nurture, fertilise. Then you've got the water bill ofc Then the massive infrastructure cost - soil, shade cloth, weed membrane etc. Then there's not forgetting your labour. What's your hourly rate? God forbid this was to happen, but if you had to take a month off due to illness and you had to hire someone in, how much would it cost? Could the nursery sales pricing maintain that employee? If not, then you are underpaying yourself 😊 It's hard to calculate and you will make mistakes till you find your feet..but what your family has achieved in such a short time is phenomenal and I have no doubt that you will get there. Godspeed 😊

As a customer, I'd much rather support a home nursery than a big box, mega Corp. I've seen the huge "W" Corp cause small bus after small bus to close due to the over-prioritization this community gave to deals -- which often meant Chinese-made, gigantic-volume, no or low customer service. Shop local, support home-grown.

What a great job you guys are doing. Love every video and enjoy the progress you're making. I'm right behind you doing the same thing. My own Nursery. I worked for a Nursery for over 5 years and very close attention to customer buying habits. It's working out pretty good so far but my biggest challenge is a very short growing season. Zone 3 central Idaho mountains with 63 frost free days. I know my plants that I can propagate easily and fairly fast but have to buy some also. Having fun doing it and always enjoy watching you.

Interesting. I wouldn't even know where to start in zone 3.
@THandP_org Жыл бұрын
I had 60 frost free days on our old farm on the Canadian border. We started introducing our customers to using plants for phytoremediation, and specialized in native edibles and native plants. Natives just do better in those incredibly limiting zones! Winters, we specialized in houseplant arrangements 😅 Spring saw our started seedlings sell like hotcakes, summers had my kids' dad busy doing masonry jobs while we sold fruits and vegetables, fall sold seeds and apples, and saw the butchering of ducks and turkeys. We used the poultry as pest control, and pests were free food to fatten up the poultry. Best of luck!

So happy to hear that it is going well! Carolina jasmine is a weed on my property now. I loved it too, especially growing up a dogwood as they bloom at the same time. I have discovered that it is toxic to livestock (I have horses and goats). I am pulling out dozens of them and would be happy to send them to you bareroot. Imo the hanging baskets are a draw for customers. I would price them as low as possible with very little profit margin this year. It gets people in, and then they buy other things. (Sort of like Costco's $5 chicken) Next year you can buy plugs early to create your own baskets and have a higher profit margin on them. Wishing you continued success!!
