Your a Tennessee woodcutter Im an Idaho miner. Difference? you cut wood for art i cut wood for timbers in the mine. i made a statement and you said i was wrong so to straighten it up im going to pull on my experience of 50 years. An important *distinction^ needs to be made between "true" and "false" cedars OK?. True cedars are members of the genus Cedrus and include species such as the Lebanon cedar, Atlas cedar, and Cyprus cedar. They are found in the Himalayas and the Mediterranean region and are often grown in parks and gardens. All true cedars are members of the pine family (Pinaceae). False cedars, sometimes known as "New World" cedars (OUR Cedars), are found in North America. They are members of the genera Calocedrus, Thuja, and Chamaecyparis, all of which are part of the Cypress family (Cupressaceae). Some believe that these trees came to be called cedars because of their aromatic wood, so are _aromic_ Cedars and resembles that of true cedars.\ Now to you it may not be a big thing but to me its life. For i use Cedar in many areas of my operation specially where water is involved. OK? North American Cedars are North White Cedar, Atlantic White Cedar Even Giant Saquoia in Califrornia. and last but not least the Western Red (pencil) Cedar.(Ive done a little logging also ... Now i had to have the names of Genus's so i had help is my searches which every one can do on line.. Cedars found in North America are members of the genera Calocedrus, Thuja, and Chamaecyparis, (Hope i spelled them right) all of which are part of the Cypress family (Cupressaceae). Some believe that these trees came to be called cedars because of their aromatic wood, which resembles that of true cedars. from which i have built aromic cedar chests. One last one the Salt Cedar grows in Arizona we use in smelting Copper for it removes Oxygen from the smelt. Now I may be just a miner but i do know all the woods i work with here and some where you live. I may not know how to produce the artistic designs but miners trust my timbers. Have a good day and i Like what you do. QR

If you can get your hands on a hedge tree (Osage) you're grand children won't have to change those post out! I live in Eastern Ks. and we have tons of hedge trees, that is all that has been used here for years and years. Nothin will touch it! Treated poles are no comparison to the resilience of Osage!! Love the vids, Brian

@Tim Travasos I don't believe that it's related but I'm not a expert.lol Osage orange is known by many names. Some are bois-d' arc, bodarc, bodock, bowwood, hedge-apple, postwood, yellowood etc. I believe it is related to the mulberry tree. Historicaly this tree has been used for many things. It is interesting to research! Hope this helps.

@Tim Travasos It's not related to mesquite trees of the genus Prosopis. Bois d'Arc (Maclura ssp.) Is one of the hardest wood of North America and can cut beautifully if you possess a power tool strong enough to take on it 2,620 janka hardness of the wood.

hello. l really like your shows. l wish you could come down my way. l have so many types of trees you would love to have. Especially dark walnut. There is three types of walnut trees we grow. all three are great for milling. the bases are aver 30 - 36 inches and stand 20 - 40 feet. there is a average of 15 clean strait wood before branches. If you could also see the different cherry trees great for milling. l have contacted both private mills and comercial. But no one wants them.

Hey Nathan, I’ve never been a cat person, but evidently we’re on a list. I have had two cats at my home for the last 7 or 8 years. We get them fixed, get all their shots, and take care of them. Some chose to come inside, some chose not to. It is amazing that the second an opening comes to the Clark compound: another cat shows up! It’s like the secret hobo network I’ve read about during the Great Depression. These folks will feed you, these folks won’t! We have two rescue dogs and two rescue cats.

I love sawmilling, when I was 3 my family moved in about 1K yards from a big sawmill, it was the life of the town. My grand pa was shipping clerk at the mill. The first job after high school was at the mill. I worked all over the milling part of the Company, I work in every position except the head rig, they never let me run the carriage. The las job I had at the mill was feeding the debarker , LOL I hung a log up in the barker and shut the mill down for about an hour, it was time to move on, but it has always been in my blood................................JS*

Look into the polyurethane two chemicals to mix to pour around the post and have a tractor pushing down on the post to keep it down. It will seal all corners and press into the dirt. They use it on Poles now. The bottom should have 24" of stone and have 36" deep for a tall pole and for fences. Those are ideas for your better fence.

Just curious but have you ever sawed teak or yue wood? Yue wood trees don't get big but they are pretty and they tend not to ever dry out so if you lean it in a corner some place it will take the shape of the corner but you can turn it around and it will bend the other way. It won't make rifle stocks but if doweled together it turns out really nice and it make nice bowls and other stuff similar. I had teak in the cabin of my boat. Also in the masters quarters and it would put you to sleep the smell did. I got the yue wood from oregon and some in washington. Just asking cause you cut for decorations as well as lumber so it seems

I am not a tree hugger and I don't belong to any radical green peace organization, but sometimes I just get these weird thoughts/ideas. I was just wondering, we, especially in the Western World, have the idea that everything must be linear, all straight. Has anyone ever thought to cut a tree as the tree would like to be cut? Cutting as the tree grew and was pushed by the elements? I live on the southern tip of Africa, in South Africa. A black student, an African, who was on a building course, built a wall that wasn't straight, but he was very proud of his handiwork. Maybe he saw something else (deeper) than what we as Westerners perceive? I think they him failed just there, but what if his wall was better equipped to withstand the elements? I think we need to think out of the box more.

Is there any way you could afford a debarker? The reason l ask that is the life of the blade would be increased plus mabe the debarker has a metal detecter. Would the cost of this new equipment off set the demand of sharp blades plus give you a better cut and possibly enhanse the price of the slab? I get all these questions poping into my mind as l watch your videos. Thanks for makeing them. It's great entertainment!!!

Realize this is an older video but, question.... I noticed, or at least it looked like you used the same pin holes that had been used before to check the moisture there at the end of the video. I see you drove them in a little deeper but, don't you run the risk of getting a dryer reading than the wood actually is using the same holes? My thinking, which may be totally wrong lol, is that the insides of the holes will have dried faster than the internal wood itself.
