You might try a coffee percolator to melt your wax. I've used one for years. Has a spout, very easy to use. Just remove the insides of the percolator, lid isn't needed either.

Thank for the idea. Normally have a lot of wood pellets left over after the season.

You can also use your candles that no longer burn in the jars. Take a knife and cut into small pieces and melt or pour on your shaving, dust what ever. You can also melt the candle in a double boiler, pan of water with towel bin bottom , pour in water and heat on open fire or house. Then just pour into whatever .

Can you comment on the burn time from different size roll containers. Lengths, wood types etc. Good idea. I do the cosmetic cotton pads dipped in wax. Great for Bug out bags and the like because they are small and flat. Easily stored. I get roughly 6 minutes burn time with a 10 inch tall flame. Thanks

Thanks for checking it out KZbinr! So I’m about to make a follow up video with pretty much the same technique but I started cutting the toilet roll cardboard in half. They last about 7 to 8 minutes and so far I’ve been able to burn pine, alder, cherrywood, hemlock and cedar. Please stay tuned for the next video and subscribe….I need all the help I can get. LOL!

I don't have saw dust, but I have an abundant supply of shredded documents on hand.

That should work perfectly!

I take the newspaper and roll it up in a toilet paper tube. Dip both sides in melted wax. Works great!

If I use these in a chiminea what happens to the wax. Takes a while for wax to burn off in a candle so does it just collect in the bottom?
@weetzerswoodshop Жыл бұрын
Thanks for checking out my channel! You will have no problem in the chiminea. The mixture of wax and sawdust will burn away completely from the high heat of the wood fire that gets started.

What are your thoughts on mixing the wax and sawdust before filling the tubes or molds? I see a lot of people doing that
@weetzerswoodshop2 жыл бұрын
Good question. I tried that and it works really well but I seemed to use up a lot more wax than needed. I never really figured out the best ratio of wax to sawdust but I did figure out that not too much wax is needed. I found out later that just waxing the just the ends of the roll was plenty and my wax consumption was way less.

I’ve read that burning wax in a wood burner is a no no…..is that true?

Yeah that is true. These starters are for my outdoor fire pits only.

I take a toilet paper roll... Stuff it with lint from the dryer... Burn it outside only.. Works well but doesn't burn as long as your fire starters... Well done sir

Just an aside.... for someone that claims to be a wood worker and doesn't know the difference between wood shavings and SAWDUST.. c'mon man. There is zero sawdust used in this video. Also, Gulf Wax works well and is available in Walmart and most supermarkets/hardware stores and is cheap. Now go change the title, lol.
