Depending the type of hickory there’s a few different species. The sap ring can vary especially what part of the country or world it’s growing in

When he splits the log is that 2. 6x8s. Or 2. 7x9s. It’s looks like hickory

The people that buy the lumber from us do not mind but we usually do box the heart, also it was a hickory log thank you for commenting

@ We had an entire load rejected from a RR tie company because we gotta greedy lol and split too many hearts on that load we cut 1000s of ties a year between the 3 mills
