Got to get some skids under the mill so that log that has cracks in it might just make some nice cants to lay the frame of the mill on and you could skid it to different locations.... keep the sawdust spread out/LOL. You go from scared to mill operators in a couple days usually. I seen a short saw deck so might get some more angle iron and make your own extensions... you have a nice start here so lets make some sawdust!

Thanks! Yes I've been meaning to do something like that. I have a new location for the mill in the works. Bunks under it would certainly be a benefit.

just a question from a novice why do you cut the wood so think is there a structual reason?????

That large log was milled to 3" by request. Flattening and machining will always bring the thickness down, and in that case the finished thickness is 2 1/2" thick. Likely for something like a live edge table. For the smaller logs I usually mill to roughly 2" which will be close to 1 1/2" after drying and machining. Good question!
