Love a man that has such high hopes about things. My guess is that those logs were worth the most as firewood. Problem is that you can't even put the ash in the garden!! Walnut is a toxin to other plants.

So your saying $15 a board foot for Walnut that has a lot a figure in it is high hopes? Most of that sold a long time ago but I did keep the best ones for myself so we might never know.

Good video, looks like you two had fun playing with water! Curious as to how you plan to split them up when the time comes as it's not like a stack of 2x4's where every one could be considered identical.
@hillbillychic39332 жыл бұрын
We will probably split it down the middle but keep the bookmatched slabs together. Most likely mine will go towards projects to sell and not necessarily selling by the slab. I don't have that kind of inventory just yet.

On the prices per board foot you showed us, were those kiln dried prices, air dried prices or as is from the mill prices? Enjoyable video and thanks!

In my area, comparable slabs go for about $15 a board foot in one of the wood working stores. They would be kiln dried but I think the price is still pretty accurate. Thanks for watching!

With the Solar Kiln. Could you not go straight into the kiln? Especially as the temps are coming down here in Tennessee?
@hillbillychic39332 жыл бұрын
"They" say walnut should air dry a bit before going into a kiln. Thanks for watching!

Also the prices you are giving out, Is that after solar kill dry
@hillbillychic39332 жыл бұрын
yes.. from what I have seen, green slabs sell for about 1/3rd the cost of dry slabs.

Where are you located. I'm in Western Wayne County New York and and don't seem to have much of an idea what slabs are worth Is in my area
@hillbillychic39332 жыл бұрын
I'm in Chattanooga, Tennessee. I think the price will vary around the country and whether or not you have to import the slabs to your area. I doubt I will sell them and most likely will use them in project videos for different tables. Thanks for watching.

I have a lot of black walnut trees in Michigan if anyone is close and wants the wood.

If your looking to sell a good place would be you local lumber yard. They could probably put you in touch with someone who harvests trees, mills them and sells to the yard. For a tree in your yard you are probably only looking at selling for a $1-$1.50 per board foot. You can go online and find a calculator and put in the dimensions of your trees to get a good idea of value.
