A push, a shove, a swing and boom! We're there! Today I'll take you through the position changes on the Lane Shark LS-4 Brush Cutter. With some tips and tricks along the way, you'll see how I'm able to move this 450 pound chunk of steel into position without much effort.

That's is a ton of adjustability in the Lane Shark. I think most people are going to use it in the flat horizontal position for a regular brush hog or the 90 degree vertical position for trimming tree lines or trails.

I think that's how I"ll be using it most of the time but then again, as we are speaking I'm thinking of the side of my one trail which is on a steel bank so this may help for that too

That Lane Shark is slicker than a greased pig at county fair, I know you have plenty of sludge with you, and probably some snacks. You give a great explanation of how to set up the LS for different jobs. Be careful out there and stay warm. John Toccoa GA

I wonder how hard and costly it would be to make a guard to protect the glass in your cab with a light metal grate/heavy screen to keep larger objects from hitting you. I guess making sure it's angled in the right direction is the first step but it wouldn't hurt to have a back up plan.

Yeah hood point there Brad. I’m sure I could rig something up if I start noticing debris . So far so good

Morning Sandy! It looks like a really useful implement. Just a question - do you find that your loader arms twist at all when you have approx 350 lbs hung off the side of one loader arm? Thanks my friend.

Hey GP! Hope you’re having a good week! Greta question. I don’t notice any movement of the loader with the Lane Shark extended to the side.

Cutting inaccessible shrubs and growth looks like it's in the purview of the Lane Shark. I thought that flying cows were an issue but a flying Shark?

That Lane Shark looks like it will be a big help in keeping your trails clear. I would suggest that you get some safety stops for the lift cylinders on your loader. They would keep the loader from dropping even if a hydraulic hose would break or the loader valve would somehow malfunction. I'm not trying to be a Safety Sally, but I have seen things happen that make me a little more cautious than I was when I was young and bullet proof. Thanks for the video

Thank you for mentioning how careful you are around the hydraulics. As a teenager, dad was working for his uncle in the bush, logging. He saw his cousin being cut in half by a bulldozer blade when the hose blew.

Scary situation right there! Sorry to hear about that. I always assume that equipment around me can break so I try to ensure if it did I'm not likely to get hurt. Could imagine the weight of that loader and brush cutter would make for a bit situation

I have an LS2. Bought it new and used it maybe 2 hours trimming a driveway and three of the main bracket bolts broke that needed to be replaced with more heavy duty bolts. Got it running and took to my hunting lease to trim lanes. After 2 days (about 10 hours of actually working it) the skid steer mounting plate bent from the torque of the weight of the unit, the main pivot had about 1/2" of wobble and play and 2 main bearings in the motor housing went out and scared the main drive shaft. Lane Shark was contacted and were zero help. Said it was operator error and abuse. The unit never saw any branches over 2" and was used on a new Kubota M4-071 with a cab and was not "abused"! I spent $1730 on parts and labor plus the bearings and shaft that are on order now to fix it. These units are not built to handle what they are intended to do. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY unless you have a good machine shop that can beef it up for you because you will need to beef it up substantially!!!! Unfortunately there really isn't another option like this out there. Beef it up Lane Shark or someone is going to get hurt when one of these comes apart while running!!!!

Excellent explanation of the various positions. My nephew has something similar that attaches to his side-by-side, and it mounts on that same - or similar universal accessory mount. That got me thinking... I'd bet he could use it on his big Kubota (141 hp). (Could also use it on the open cab 70 horse, but that WOULD NO'T BE FUN(!!!!!!), mowing the snow with an open cab. Stay warm and stay dry, buddy.

I was using mine today and had it at 2600 rpm. That is the 540 mark on my tachometer. Still goes up what I consider slow. Nowhere near the speed of yours going up in your video unless your video is on fast speed.
