picked up rammus aswell, does buying bami's before bramble vest really impact the early game or is it more of a preference thing? just wondering.

You missed the part where W increases the damage of his passive by 50%. It goes from 10+10% bonus armor to 15+15% and is what causes people to take damage on hit. FWIW, Guinsoo’s works with his passive and absolutely slaps.
