As a non-sax player, it just sounds like he’s improvising a solo, whereas the mariokart lick sounds like it’s planned and written as part of the song. He Mario kart composer is a genius.

I'm glad to see Baptiste Herbin is famous outside France 🙂. I had the chance to gig with him on 'Blues for Alice' and it was really great (even if I did not have his practicing level 😅). Great job of transcribing this lick 👍

Hey man, that whole tone pattern I think comes from Bud Powell. He played it on Just One Of Those Things, the solo version. Check it out man!

What an interesting pattern, I see a decending major7 pattern in whole steps going on there too.

You could also see the pattern as 1-3 and then going down the bebop scale and continuing with the next tonic being the b7 which you landed on

This year back in April my marching band was supposed to go to France for our bi-yearly trip and our jazz band (me included) and we were scheduled to play at a jazz club in Paris. Baptiste Herbin was supposed to play with us too. It would have been a great experience but unfortunately it didn't come to be because of obvious reasons. Hopefully in the future I will be able to meet with him!
