So often we as a people think that we have to spend high dollars to get high quality. Sometimes that is true. But I have often used 3 rules when I make a purchase. (Rule #1)Get the most for your money. (Rush #2)Don’t buy what you don’t need. And (Rule #3)in the end you get what you pay for. These aren’t just rules. They are truths. If I were a Ferengi, they would be in my book of the Rules of Acquisition. When buying electronics, like a keyboard or a mixer, it is VERY easy to see where these rules apply. However, when getting things we need to be better saxophonist or to get the sound we want out of our saxophone, it’s it more difficult to apply these rules. Why? Because it’s not the same situation. A mouthpiece or a reed or a neckstrap is to a saxophonist what a wrench is to a plumber or what a socket wrench is to a mechanic. It’s a tool of the trade. And while you can spend a few hundred dollars buying a good, it is possible to find a good tool without spending a few hundred dollars. There is nothing wrong with having a good tool, but the tool is only as good as the skill of it’s user. In this video, I take a moment to test some mouthpieces that are all less than $50. The sound has NOT been equalized. It was all recorded using the microphone on my iPhone 12mini. Please enjoy, Like, Share, and SUBSCRIBE.
