This original Otto Link hard rubber Tone Edge tenor saxophone mouthpiece, also called the Slant Signature because of the slanted Otto Link signature stamped during the 1950/60's, was sent to me for re-facing and enlarging of the tip opening.
The tip rail was crooked and the table was not flat, as can be seen in the video. The client's request was that I open the tip to a size 7* or an 8.
I opened the mouthpiece to 0.108" (7**) and kept the baffle reasonably low, in the manner these pieces are known to be.
I used the same German Hard Rubber Composite I use for production of my own mouthpieces and build up the area on the beak where the groove was, before reshaping it to the original beak height.
The client responded:
" I knew these mouthpieces would come back playing really well, but I don’t think I realized how well!
The Otto Link hard rubber tenor is my favorite tenor mouthpiece of all time!
You are a true artist and I am eternally grateful for your care and patience with this work! ”
