Allo again Are the NY DR very differnet then Florida Double Ring? I ve onwed three DR Florida ones. Maybe thinking of going for a NY DR. Many thanks All the best Mario

@@mariomalette4155 Hey Mario, I just saw your message on Messenger as well. I'll just reply here instead: The early double rings had very long bite plates. As far as I have experienced that really is the biggest difference. Internally the difference between individual pieces is so big that it cancels out any intentioned differences between early and late DR FLs if there were any. (I think those are the ones you're talking about.) There also is a NY - FL transitional model that had two sets of double rings. Those are very rare. The ones I've seen have looked a little closer to the Tone Master series. The previous model that is.

Wow-bending it open-that got my interest!
@Stephan-Kammerer
@Stephan-Kammerer 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, pretty old school but that's the way to do it. If you just file it open you lose too much material. . . .Always a nerve-wracking operation!

@@Stephan-Kammerer Do you work on stainless steel?
@Stephan-Kammerer
@Stephan-Kammerer 4 жыл бұрын
@@bobblues1158 Yes I do. Please have look on the website, the pricing is a little different because the material is so hard. I wouldn't bend a stainless steel piece for the same reason but they can be refaced.

I love your videos! What kind of reed or reed profile do you feel brings out the best qualities in a great Link like this, once you're done with it? Do you reface to the type of reed the client is playing, or do you have a reed in mind for the synergy of the "ideal combination," so to speak?
@Stephan-Kammerer
@Stephan-Kammerer 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Dale, thanks! I usually ask the client what reeds they use and match the tip profile to that type of reed. Most reed brands use a curve at the tip following a circle of the same diameter but there are differences in width and how the corners are rounded out. In the end you should be able to use any reed but if your mouthpiece is set up for a Vandoren reed and you want to play Rigotti reeds the corners of the reed may 'hang over' if you're putting the reed to the tip.

I got 2 questions: 1. What mic are you using? 2. What modern metal link version would you consider best blank to send it for refacing?
@Stephan-Kammerer
@Stephan-Kammerer 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Hannes. The mic is a T47 from a company called Microphone Parts, I love it. (see the link in the description). The modern Vintage line is probably best but really any of them. I'd recommend picking one out and playing it first to find the one that already plays best.

Hey Stephan, what do you use to polish the piece? Thanks!
@Stephan-Kammerer
@Stephan-Kammerer 3 жыл бұрын
With my polishing wheel and flex shaft tool, I use something called Enkay - Extra Fine All-Purpose Blue Polishing Compound. With a cloth at the end, I use something called Wenol.

@@Stephan-Kammerer Hey Stephan, other little question here. What would you recommend to polish a silver-looking Florida? Not sure what the plating is... Thanks!
@Stephan-Kammerer
@Stephan-Kammerer 3 жыл бұрын
@@alexambroise111 Hello Alexandre! I like something called Wenol, you can find it online. Regardless of the plating only do it once if you really think it is necessary because polishing is abrasive. If you use it often over time it will wear down the facing.
