I can't even explain what this album means to me. The lyrics are so insanely personal in every song, but then he finds a way to tie it all up in a way that anyone can somewhat relate. When Max is yelling "push" at the top of his lungs it means something so different to him when he sings, When I listen to that part it's encouragement to push myself. Ironically I always loved Say Anything because of the Guitar, all of those crazy tones and riffs Max finds are insane, and the fact that at least half of the guitar he records is improvised is incredible for how right it sounds, but this album doesn't need guitar to be good, I find enough personal struggle in it to satisfy the ISARB in me, I find enough melodic instrumentation to satisfy the IDOFTG in me, and I find enough of the positivity and evolution for the ST in me, I mentioned on another SA video how this album even made me enjoy Anarchy more. Okay well, I guess I CAN explain what this album means to me..

For those who can't understand the change well he wrote the second verse of "Judas Decapitation" for you guys. Hell, the whole song. It's different but after hearing it from beginning to end a couple times I could appreciate and embrace the fact that he has matured and departed from his traditional sound. It's a great album.

a lot of people are talking about how the music isn't relatable, but he can't make music about things that you're experiencing. artists make music that make them happy! Music would be terrible if they music just to cater to the relevance of their listeners. for example, and I love Of Mice & Men and everything, but their most recent album doesn't sound like it was written from experience it sounds like it was made to suck up to fans. "Hebrews" was made from Max's personal feelings and experiences of course it won't be relatable. I understand that and I still like Say Anything as much as I liked them when I first heard of them, I also understand that is not everyone else's opinions on this new album. Plus, you'd all get extremely bored of this band if it didn't progress and was just about the same stuff over and over. Music doesn't /need/ to be relatable. It just needs to be enjoyable to whomever make enjoy it.

I don't get why people judge music purely off of how well they can relate to the lyrics. Regardless of what you think of the lyrics, there's no denying that it still SOUNDS incredible; its classic Say Anything. Isn't that the point of music? To sound good? Besides, if Max wrote something more relatable to you then he wouldn't be being true to himself, and that would show in the music.

Lyrics are meaningless. Case in point. everybody thinks that "Born in the USA" is some kind of patriotic anthem. When it's about a guy whose life is bad to begin goes to Vietnam, comes back, and it gets WORSE. But hey, if it helps hipsters to feel more intelligent, then maybe I "just don't understand".

I believe in God but I've no reason to follow. Lost my virginity to myself, I'm just sparks and meat. I believe in love, but I'm gassy, dank and hollow. I'd rather drink, smoke, die young, be reborn and repeat. I belong in jail, but I lied my way to heaven, with a wife who hasn't learned that I'm Satan yet. I want to burn my art, so I can carve one twee and modern, but I'll just serenade the chemicals. It's the cure that's hardly medical. Six, six, six, I need a fix. Never better, I'm a little bit sick. I hold a grudge and a burden. I hold a tongue and an organ. Bang, bang, bang, I hit and ran, left my inner child dead in the drain. I hold the fire and the hunger. I hold the name and the number: six, six, six. Unimpressed by the symmetry of death. Drown in butter 'til there's no hope left. It's alright. You think I'm worthy of your wandering eye? I'm just a strung out, overweight Jewish guy. So Lord, help me. [Andy Hull:] You don't want to make, me come down. You're trying to let it go, and opening your mouth. You won't win. You will bow down. So let it go, no. So let it go now. [Max Bemis:] All I want is to dethrone God, so I can be crucified Crucified, crucified. All I want! All I want! All I want! All I want!

The vocals are kind of bad, it's a little bit like he's singing one way and the rest of the band is playing another. They're opposites and it doesn't work well. His voice sounds like he's trying to be agressive and in pain and the instruments are going for some pop parade sound.

John McClane I am 100% positive that the music I listen to encompasses more of the world and genres than what you listen to so don't tell me what I need to learn or listen more of, kid. Judging by your language, either you're a pre-teen kid or a diehard fan who can't take any form of criticism towards their favorite band
@johnmcclane27689 жыл бұрын
Agustin Torres You're literally spewing unedicated criticism that means nothing to the song sorry i dont listen to butt fucking edm and try hard hipster bands. But you literally sound like a moron that doesn't understand rudimentary song writing methods.
@AugieSubsJrock9 жыл бұрын
John McClane I love that you think I listen to the 2 things, and rap, that I despise most. Everything I said had to with the song which makes you the hypocrite, spouting unrequited, irrelevant hatred. You literally don't know how to literally use the word 'literally,' you "moron." Considering I've written and composed peer reviewed songs and lyrics, I'd say I do have an understanding on song writing that exceeds rudimentary. You're more than welcome to continue to attempt to undermine me or my opinion but everytime you reply, you sound less like an educated individual and more like a pathetic, whiny worm trying to pick a fight to prove its worth in this world. Until the next time!

Love the song, love the album, love the band, but... not gonna lie, this video is super awkward XD Most of it is Max just kind of frolicking around, which might make sense if there was some kind of band with him, but without that it just kinda looks like him getting super pumped while singing karaoke. Just sayin'.
@BeppyP10 жыл бұрын
I have been a die hard Say Anything fan my entire life. Pretty much since junior varsity. But I have two major problems with the new album. First of all. It literally isn't Say Anything. Not in a "I hate the new sound kinda way" I love Max and his writing/singing style, but there's no other members of the band.. it's really a Max Bemis solo project, which is fine, but somewhat disappointing. In terms of sound, I like it, but not nearly as much as the old stuff. Granted, Max has grown tremendously since Real Boy, but the way he feels now is almost as immature as the skin he was trying to shed. It's one thing to move on, but hating your former self, even going as far as making a video about killing the younger version, is another altogether. What I mean is that real SA fans love you Max. Then and now. There's no reason to center all the anger you once oozed outwards onto yourself.
@samwoodson960310 жыл бұрын
Is a Real Boy was just Max and Coby. This album is Max, Garron, and Reed as well as a handful guest string and brass musicians and a ton of guest vocalists. So it's not just Max. Coby left the band and now Reed plays the drums. Alex left the band and now Garron plays the bass. They're still Say Anything. They're still a band.
@JinnoRedovan9 жыл бұрын
Trevis Busteed Shedding your old skin is a sign of growing up and progressing; leaving behind all of the stuff you don't want to be a part of anymore. It's about one of the most mature things you can do. What do you mean it's immature that he's doing that? Just because you're attached to the way he was back then, doesn't mean this dude can't live his life the way he wants or complain about what he wants.
@BeppyP9 жыл бұрын
Jinno Redovan I never said he couldn't. In fact, I said that I acknowledged his growth. But just because he's grown doesn't mean he's better off or more mature. Yes completely shunning his old self, as well as everything that people like me loved. It's his decision, but do you really think that automatically makes him more mature? He hates how he used to be, which is sad. I would assert further actually, that hating and disowning who you used to be isn't mature at all. Maturity comes from accepting who you are and making healthy changes.
@nosoup4u45939 жыл бұрын
I wish they recorded this album traditionally. I really like the music, but I hate how its all classical string instruments. dont get me wrong its cool but they play it with guitars and shit live so i don't really see the point. Just seems like its overdone
@hugeslacker9 жыл бұрын
That was my thought exactly. It's good, but over produced. I like the raw 3 piece sound, and maybe some electronic, but the classical instruments mellow it out too much. Maybe that was the point?
