Say goodbye to "Canadian Forces 1": Aging plane which flew Trudeau, Canada's PMs to be replaced

After flying Canadian prime ministers and British royalty around the world for decades, Canada's VIP air force jet is being retired from its role and replaced with a newer, less problematic plane.
The original one was built in 1987, bought by the federal government in 1992 after being used by Canadian airlines, and given a new paint job in 2013.
David Akin, who's logged many kilometres on that aircraft, looks back on its history of travels and troubles.

This is really bad journalism: 90% of washrooms on planes have ashtrays. That includes the newest generation of planes. Also, the airline is called "Kuwait Airways" not "Kuwaiti Airways".

I actually flew on that old plane a few times. You'd be amazed at how spartan it actually was. I was serving in the military and posted in the Middle East in the 90s during Chretien's time when he refused to use it. So the Air Force just used it for general cargo and personnel on short hops. We often got our mail and other deliveries on that plane. Chretien refusing to use it was purely symbolic and, as it turned out, rather stupid since flying him around on other aircraft actually ended up costing more.

Just gave the Navy 3.5 million to keep the navys 4 two decade old Subs to buy spare parts to keep them floating past the 2030's when they have spent most of their time in Dry Dock. Ashtrays continue to exist only in the lavatories due to an ancient FAA law requiring a safe disposal bin for cigarettes in the event a passenger breaks the law.. This is because the waste bin is generally full of dryish highly flammable paper left over from wiping your hands. So if some fool lights up even by accident, we don't want him shoving the butt into the waste bin which would certainly create a fire. However now most waste bins are oxygen deprived so that they act as a safe disposal area, this is why when you try to throw away that napkin you feel like you're fighting with a guillotine type trap door. It seals off any oxygen in the event a fire is created in there, it will burn for less than five seconds before the oxygen is depleted

Compared with the other countries representatives, I would say in at least 2 occasions shows we are very careful to spend the money of vehicles. No. 1 for sure is the air force 1, another one is our Japan embassy, they use a Black Toyota Camry. It works even compared with the Mercedes or Toyota Crown from the other embassies.😅 But it is definitely cheaper in price.
