The only problem with taking a stand is that it won’t be effective at anything but stopping the sale of those parts altogether, because the EPA does not give a rat’s ass about what people want. They are 100% committed to the eradication of all combustion engine vehicles. They can’t just ban them outright yet, so they’re taking the death by 1000 cuts approach. They will make it more and more difficult to modify cars and bikes for racing until racing ceases to exist, then they will continue making it more and more impossible for OEMs to meet fuel efficiency requirements until nothing is made but electric vehicles with limited range and the ability to be shut off remotely.

Sadly, this has been the law in Canada for a long time. We can't legally put aftermarket exhausts on our bikes. Do people do it? Absolutely. It's up to the police to determine whether your bike is compliant or not, so if you run into a cop that doesn't like you or your bike, or the sound of your exhaust, you get a fat ticket and have to do an inspection by a certified shop or a dealership to sign off on your bike. You still have to pay the ticket or argue if your bike didn't have race only performance parts (yes, there are cases where people got tickets for running a stock bike and the cop simply didn't like you). Total BS and government overreach. I don't see governments banning private jets for the elite, but they will happily ban bike exhausts that make up less than 5% of vehicles on the road. Ridiculous.
@geo.0377 ай бұрын
Yes you CAN put aftermarket parts on your motorcycle in Canada. Shops are in no way obligated to follow the procedure mentioned in this video. Yes we have a noise law and you can be ticketed etc. And I'm sure it happens but few and far between. Everyone I know runs aftermarket exhaust and none have received a ticket for noise violation. I run V&H straight shots on my Harley and haven't had an issue. Sheesh in 1980 I had a inline 4 with a Yoshimura competition exhaust on it. Hahah it had a plate on the exhaust that said completion ONLY. I got tickets, speed variety, and never for exhaust. Anyway. We are NOT discouraged here as one might think. Cheers!

It’s not just HD dealing with these issues. I bought a Ducati branded exhaust produced by Akrapovic. You can install the exhaust on your own but you have to get the dealer to install the UpMap. In order for the dealer to install the UpMap, the bike has to be delivered to the dealership in/on a trailer, bike must be race prepped (lights taped, license plate removed) and the dealership take photos of such coming and going. You, as the owner of the bike, must sign a document stating you will only use the bike on track. This basically removes liability from everyone else but you.

I often have people on the road with an exhaust SOOOO loud it can be heard at the end of my road a mile and a half away ALL hours of the day. It used to be that the riders would respect people and not hammer on the throttle while most people were sleeping. They would not rev the piss out of their bikes in a residential area thinking they are Joe Cool. There is no need to be at the top end of the RPM`s in a residential area ....... shift the damn bike and get the RPM`s lower and not Piss everyone off. I have had multiple people thank me for coming home at night while keeping the bike as quiet as possible when people are obviously sleeping..........The government didn't wake up one day and say lets piss the motorcycle community off for the hell of it..... lets limit the purchase of parts and eliminate the income of sales tax. Not that exhaust and cam's were being installed on mowers but certainly compliance regarding lower emissions by manufactures has and hard starting and poor running mowers are the result. Blame the EPA and the govt for all of this. Don’t be pissed off at the distributors and manufacturers for what’s going on. They’re protecting their business from the EPA and CARB hitting everyone with fines. Take it up with your representatives in the govt and let them know what you think about it. Powersports shops/installers are going to have to protect themselves as well to keep from getting fined.

What are the distributors doing to fight this? Once the government has them in line, they won't care what consumers want.

In 2018 the EPA started suing diesel tuners and putting them out of business for tuning vehicles that had their emission systems removed. Remind me, who was the president in ‘18? Which party held the house AND senate at that time? You guessed it. The Republicans. This was a bi-partisan deal. If you don’t know the specifics, then don’t make stuff up to fit your political narrative. This sucks for all of us who own modified bikes and trucks but don’t just blame one party. They both had their hands in it.

I had to buy my exhaust from Amazon because cause no one would send one to California. I worked in the aftermarket auto parts business for years. More than half of the products we sold were only for “off-road use only”. It didn’t stop anyone, but a cop in the know would write you a fix it ticket a mile long if you got pulled over for even the slightest infraction.

I lived in California 40 years before I closed shop and left. The EPA and Healthcare System operate on the same two principles, "dollars and cents". Its not about our health, its about thier pockets.

It was refreshing yesterday watching the Superbowl in Australia , and Ford announced in a TV Ad they are bring the gas guzzling F150 to Australia !! first time a F truck here since the 70s . I think I saw a new Ram Ad too. Sticking the middle finger up to the woke prime minister and even nuttier energy minister with is Windmills and Solar farms

If I'm reading the subtext correctly here, the big complaint is about open exhaust systems, right? Like the diesel guys, emission control systems are removed from motorcycles to make them louder and faster. Lots of bikers like loud for its own sake, and every biker likes faster. All that is being restricted here are open pipes that remove catalytic converters. You can still have performance parts on the street as long as they aren't too dirty.

Been dealing with this for years with diesel trucks. Taking a stand won't do shit. The EPA will put companies out of business, they don't give AF

The sad fact for any cruiser type bike is a very tiny percentage have venues to actually race. I think this is more evidence of over reach by a dictatorial government and administration. My answer would be "yes, I compete in the human race, even sometimes in the rat race."

I wonder if this is why Harley cancelled my order for a Stage 4 kit with no explanation. The customer service rep said they didn’t know why it was cancelled, but the kit was unavailable and I could not back order it (even though the website says it’s available for back order).

Yeah , in Canada we've had this for a while. Click the box acknowledging it's for race only, tear up the streets... Pay your fun tax to the pigs and carry on. Been pulled over a few times with a fully built 128" STAGE IV road king worst I've gotten is an excessive noise ticket.

In California this has been an issue for a long time. When I had an HD, the only 50 states legal exhaust came from S&S. After fixit tickets were tied to vehicle registration that was it C.A.R.B. Is brutal!

I can see the logical reason for these companies putting the disclaimer on their products. The rebellious rider that gets pulled over and issued with a ticket or appearance notice argues that the shop or supplier of the part fitted that makes their bike unroadworthy is to blame. 🙄

"... how it used to be ..." is what got us where we are now - a global environmental disaster. Can't believe the ignorance that is on display in these comments. Like I said elsewhere in these comments, try expressing these views to your grand kids when your an old man and see how they look at you - it'll be a reflection of your own ignorance staring back at you . . . of course you'll probably all still be too ignorant to get it.

I am in Australia, and we are somewhere between Canada and the US. If the manufacturers were allowed by the regulations to make their OEM exhaust sound like a motorcycle there would not be any need for aftermarket exhausts. Catalytic converters flow well nowdays so having a cat is not really the issue. The Mercedes AMGs prove that you the OEM's can build a great sounding exhaust.

You're late to the game and barking at the wrong car brother.... it's the insurance companies and government regulations, not the aftermarket part suppliers. They have to comply to stay in business, or there would be no aftermarket parts....

Sad happenings! But let’s go to the source, California and C.A.R.B. (California Air Resource Board). CARB makes the EPA look like babies compared to them. The EPA takes their lead from CARB. Since the current administration has come into place the EPA has gone after all performance parts and just combustion based vehicles in a big way. Just look up the EPAs record breaking fines on Cummings(Ram) just s few weeks ago. Bottom line is the current administration want all combustion based vehicles gone!

I live in Canada. Certain towns and cities in Quebec are clamping down on noise emitted from motorcycles. My Magnaflow pipes on my Softail would not pass the noise by-law there. I live in Nova Scotia where they don't bother with loud pipes. I don't know what parts are on the EPA list as it wasn't discussed but I do know some bikes are just too loud. When people complain, laws happen. There are streets on the South shore of Montreal where motorcycles ar prohibited due to excessive noise. I think us bikers have a responsibility to show respect to our neighbours. I like a little rumble and like a few extra ponies but find there is no room for straight pipes. I have asked after market manufacturers what dB levels a set of pipes would emit before buying them and the sellers would never give me a clear answer. How can I make an informed decision if I am not given the numbers? So, I'd like to know which "race parts" are actually targeted by the feds? And who's fault is it anyway if people complain bikes are too loud?
