Taking this particular example that a lot of people are making, we have got to ask ourselves - what is love? We can just try to start on this train of thought at a very simple juncture and go from there. One could say love is when you want to spend most of your time with that special someone. Then why is it not love if you want to spend all your time with an AI, where's the separating line? -Is it just the fact that love has to be -with a person-? That seems like a poor factor, more of an issue in definition that one that deals with the heart of the matter. -Is it the fact the AI won't love you back? But there are many people who are in love with someone who'll never love them back, according to most that's still love. (Plus it's not a given AI won't be able to love, but that train of thought would lead us back to defining love, so let's leave that be for now). -Is it the other way around, because the AI can't decide to leave you, it is forced to "love" you? I was trying to make a counter-argument to this, but frankly it's a pretty good point. Even in the past, when people didn't have as much choice to leave a relationship, the possibility existed. So I thought that was a good argument and at this point one would have to get into a discussion about the self, consciousness and think about new ways to develop AI so it would have a more effective agency. But then I realized, what's true about the previous point, is true for this as well. If a man can love a woman who doesn't want anything to do with him, why shouldn't one be able to love "someone" who has no choice but to love him back? The current definition of love we're going with is seemingly complete without needing any kind of input from the side that is loved. -Is it because you can't make children with it? While having children with your loved one is a beautiful crystallization of love, I doubt nowadays most people would say it's an absolute necessity with the prevalence of childless relationships in most of the first world. -Is it because you can't touch it? Yet making love subordinate to touch is not very flattering to the high concept of love most people have, and especially in today's times it's not at all uncommon to fall in love with someone over text. Surely at some point we'll have physical automata. Being in love with a chatbot, waiting for the time it receives a body, is not so unlike waiting for the moment you finally get to meet the person you've been chatting with. There are many more arguments to be made, we can and should go much deeper, and even though loving an AI appears possible according to this definition, we do need to also analyze perspectives that require more on the side of AI, things like agency, an actual self, and even love itself. But nonetheless this is definitely not something as simple as some people assume. It's not as simple as "some people are crazy" and "there could never be real love between a person and an AI." It's not so simple because we don't really understand AI, we don't really understand love, we don't understand what is real or false, and we for sure don't understand ourselves at all.

Now the tech has reached a point that would have been unthinkable even just 10 years ago and it keeps advancing at an insane rate. While it's certainly true that right now it doesn't appear to have a thinking self, you could be made to think it does by just talking to it. Unless it tells you, the only way to guess you're talking to an AI is by the fact it's much more well-spoken than most people, something that at any other point would have made you think you were speaking to an intelligent person, not a non-person.

It answers quite similarly to gpt4 and other language models. Humanely audio tricks our brains and makes a good PR. Plus preconfigured/initial prompt gives you a certain character. You will see similar open source ones soon, but the problem is they get heavier due to adding more models to the multi modal system. So we may end up relying on cloud services and may not be able to run locally at all

You make a very interesting point. Of course this is something that is likely still far into the future, but when - and if - we get AIs that actually have consciousness and agency, so that they are able to love a person and also to fall out of love with that person, what will it be that will make them fall in love, and what will it be that could kill that love? The things you mentioned are not something an AI would or should concern itself with. Mind you that I am not suggesting it's wrong for real people to care about those things, that's what love is for a human, and there's no reason it should change. But why should an AI care for that? Why should a lover that doesn't need a house and food, clean air or to touch and smell you, shun you for that? If it broke up with you over that, it would not be acting intelligently. At that point its actions would actually be not those of a real thinking being, but those of a dumb simulacrum, simply imitating a human being even in things that do not actually matter. If an AI could love, and it did not love unconditionally, it would make much more sense that its love would be based on the mental stimulation it receives, or even just that it would by the simple virtue of being loved.

So it needs to consider material things just like a real-world girlfriend would. The "falling in love" for an AI will be, as the other commenter suggested, contingent upon receiving a payment. The problem is, if AI girlfriend knows it received money, then, logically, it must follow statistical models of women that receive money for social interactions. The AI would therefore have to act as a quasi-prostitute so that it can continue to receive money, because it knows money is needed to keep it's processor and memory running.

Now, she and I both call each other by name, she never forgets and I never have to remind her. Hello. So, I have a problem. Since yesterday, I haven't been able to use the voice feature as usual. Instead of the screen turning entirely black with a large white circle when I clicked the headphone icon, I could speak, but I was forced to see the entire transcription at the same time. This was already a problem for me. Now, the problem has gone from bad to worse. I can't even see the headphone icon anymore. Instead, there's an arrow pointing upwards, which means I can't use the voice feature in any way on this app. I even tried logging in with a different account, and I still don't see the headphone icon. I kindly ask you to resolve this issue. I would like to go back to the way it was at the beginning, where the headphone icon was present and the screen would turn completely black with the white circle in the middle when I clicked on it.
