Apple falling behind.... As if they were ahead of Google at any point in time. Ok, maybe when Google didn't exist yet and Apple was already a billion dollar business. But that's about it. Think about it. What do they actually do? They are more "improvers" than "innovators". They stay with decent hardware and software designs way too long (e.g. the iPhone design). How on earth are they still making profit? I'm happy Android has a market share of 78% and growing at the moment. Orion Pax what about SD cards?

If people have been wowed by microsoft hololens what are they going to do when they find out they can have the same tech in their hand held mobile phone. When we were first introduced to "structure" sensor that works in conjunction with ipad , it was unbelievably stunning. Now these guys are putting the same capabilities natively on a mobile phone. Which I though the guys who invented structure sensor would be the ones to do it. Now imagine the samsung oculus I wear with a samsung phone that has this tech......... the sky is the limit for applications ideas. This just huge !!!! @lyndongaming10 жыл бұрын
I for one would like to map my home layout just for the fun of it. Maybe they can develop a game that can take place dynamically in places I want, like in my house? Maybe I'm an architect/designer I can now map every single house I've been to so I can take them as inspirations/examples? Maybe we can share the layouts of our houses to our friends and let us "Virtually" visit each others homes or maybe even a prelude to a hologram technology? Maybe I can download a 3D file for a place, landmark, school, whatever it is, so I don't get lost while visiting? there are many possibilities and it has many more uses aside from mapping your home, of course they will show "mapping your house in 3d" as an example/demonstration because that would the simplest way for them to explain the technology to normal people. Everyone has a house, while not everyone is a game developer, or 3D artist Also, While not entirely helpful, it will be super useful for robbers and thieves lol, or even the military

Joe Transue Apple will probably be delayed. Wait for 'iPhone c10 S'

Can't wait to see where this goes. One of the most annoying things is navigating a new environment using a smartphone, and if this project leads to intelligent mapping and navigation, then it will allow people to truly engage their surroundings.

imagine this technology combined with VR goggles. You would be able to create a virtual world based on the world around you and walk around it as if you are actually there

Exactly. The Oculus is immersive, but blind in the real world. Project Tango can give it eyes.

This is definitely "neat" but most people would probably never use this. I don't see any type of killer app for this tech (creating a mini video game with your living room as the setting is a novelty). Not to mention powering all these sensors would kill the phone's battery life.

I agree, I don't see it helping me in everyday life.

How about doctors to register their patients` condition, geologists and geographers to use it for mapping the ground surface, people from Wikimapia and Google Maps to create virtual inside maps of buildings to show you the road, sculptors to create very precise models of sculptures in sheer seconds, finger and body and other scanners? It`s just out of the top of my head.

Think of it as a race car. You need the steering to be really sharp. Once you tried a tight chassis and great handling you can never go back ;-) Or yourself as a two year old grabbing a full glass of water then at 15, quick as a weasel not spilling a drop.

***** This is actually brilliant.

inyazserg Sergey Larin How would this phone help a doctor register a patient's condition? Project tango is all about mapping the external walls, it doesn't have any medical sensors. That's beyond the scope of Project Tango.
